President Al-Alimi Discusses Security Cooperation and Reallocation of Aid for Electricity and Essential Services with the European Commissioner

His Excellency President Dr. Rashad Mohammed Al-Alimi, President of the Presidential Leadership Council, met today, Friday, with Ms. Dubravka Šuica, the European Commissioner for the Middle East and North Africa, on the sidelines of the International Security Conference taking place in Munich, Germany.  

The meeting addressed recent developments in the local situation, the necessary European and international support for the Yemeni economy, and efforts to mitigate the humanitarian crisis exacerbated by Houthi terrorist attacks on oil facilities and maritime shipping vessels.  

President Al-Alimi briefed the European official on local developments, the Council's and government’s vision to achieve comprehensive and lasting peace in Yemen and the region. 

He reiterated his call for the European Union to impose punitive measures against the militias, designating them as a Foreign Terrorist Organization, and to reallocate its assistance to address the essential public service needs in the country.  

For her part, the European Commissioner expressed the Commission's commitment to seriously engage with the priorities highlighted by the President of the Presidential Leadership Council. She emphasized the importance of ongoing coordination with the Yemeni government on shared security challenges and confirmed the EU’s readiness to reallocate its support to include the electricity and energy sectors, as well as essential services.

The meeting was attended by Dr. Yahya Al-Shuaibi, Director of the Office of the Presidency of the Republic, Dr. Shai’a Al-Zindani, Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates, and Mr. Loai Al-Eryani, Yemen's Ambassador to the Federal Republic of Germany.
