President Al-Alimi Discusses Joint Cooperation with EU High Representative to Deter Terrorist Threats

His Excellency Dr. Rashad Mohammed Al-Alimi, President of the Presidential Leadership Council, met today, Friday, with Ms. Kaja Kallas, the High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy. The meeting took place on the sidelines of the 61st International Security Conference, which commenced today in the German city of Munich.

The discussions focused on recent developments in local situation, the trajectory of comprehensive reforms, and the necessary European and international interventions to support the Yemeni economy, strengthen the national currency, and alleviate the humanitarian suffering exacerbated by Houthi terrorist attacks on oil facilities and maritime shipping vessels.

President Al-Alimi briefed the European official on the Council's and the government's vision for achieving comprehensive and lasting peace in Yemen and the region. His Excellency emphasized the importance of supporting the government to enhance its capabilities in protecting its territorial waters. In this context, His Excellency underscored the need for the European Union and the international community to adopt punitive measures against the Houthi terrorist militias, work to cut off their funding and arms supplies, and compel them to cease their grave human rights violations and military ventures both nationally and regionally. He also called for the implementation of relevant international resolutions, particularly Resolution 2216.

Additionally, the President highlighted the importance of intensifying pressure on the Iranian regime to cease its support and arming of the Houthi militias, and to strengthen the UN Verification and Inspection Mechanism (UNVIM) in accordance with the arms embargo resolution.

President Al-Alimi praised the European Union's support for the Yemeni people and their legitimate government, expressing hope for increased assistance in the economic, humanitarian, and developmental fields.

He also expressed appreciation for the EU's efforts to ensure the security of international navigation in the Red Sea, affirming that the solution to eliminate the threat posed by the Houthi terrorist militias lies solely in restoring Yemeni state institutions and supporting the legitimate government to assert its authority over all its territory.

His Excellency warned that a lack of decisive action against the Houthi militias' aggressive practices, escalating terrorism, and serious violations of human rights and maritime security would encourage other terrorist groups to engage in similar behaviors in various parts of the world.

The meeting was attended by Dr. Yahya Al-Shuaibi, Director of the Office of the Presidency of the Republic, Dr. Shai’a Al-Zindani, Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates, Major General Mahmoud Al-Subaihi and Mr. Abdulaziz Al-Mekhlafi, Advisors to the President of the Presidential Leadership Council, and Mr. Loai Al-Eryani, Yemen's Ambassador to the Federal Republic of Germany.
