Today, Wednesday, His Excellency President Dr. Rashad Mohammed Al-Alimi, President of the Presidential Leadership Council, received the UK Ambassador to Yemen, Ms. Abda Sharif. The meeting aimed to discuss bilateral relations, the latest national and regional developments, and ways to coordinate between the two friendly countries on various issues of mutual interest.

The meeting addressed efforts for government reforms, the international support needed to tackle the economic and service crises in the country, and measures to mitigate the catastrophic repercussions of Houthi terrorist attacks on oil facilities and maritime shipping vessels.

During the meeting, the President of the Presidential Leadership Council praised the bilateral relations between the two friendly countries and the UK's humanitarian and developmental interventions across various fields.

Furthermore, His Excellency highlighted the valued initiatives and efforts of the UK to mobilize support for Yemeni state institutions and enhance their capacities in addressing the urgent economic and financial burdens exacerbated by the Houthi terrorist militias' attacks on oil facilities and international shipping lanes.

His Excellency the President briefed Ambassador Abda Sharif on the latest developments in the national situation and the measures being taken by the state to support the national currency. This includes the return of all State’s institutions to operate from within the country, particularly the Presidential Leadership Council and the government, as well as the acceleration of the economic rescue plan’s implementation.

The meeting also touched on the recent escalation by the Houthi terrorist militia across multiple fronts, their grave human rights violations, and ways to pressure them into releasing UN employees and humanitarian and civil society workers unconditionally.

In this context, the President expressed his condolences to the United Nations, the humanitarian community, and the family of the World Food Programme staff member who died in Houthi detention in Saada province. He emphasized that supporting the Yemeni government and rallying international backing for punitive measures against the terrorist militia is the only way to deter their actions, compel them to halt their violations and reckless activities, and revive hopes for a return to the desired path of peace.

The meeting was attended by Dr. Yahya Al-Shuaibi, Director of the Office of the Presidency of the Republic.
