President of Leadership Council Welcomes the Re-designation of Houthis as a Foreign Terrorist Organization
Aden
His Excellency Dr. Rashad Mohammed Al-Alimi, President of the Presidential Leadership Council, welcomed the decision by U.S. President Donald Trump to redesignate the Iran-backed Houthi militias as a Foreign Terrorist Organization.
On his behalf, the members of the Council, the government, and the Yemeni people, the President expressed his gratitude to President Trump for this historic decision. He also reiterated his welcome of President Trump’s commitments to ending wars and deterring terrorist organizations worldwide.
The President affirmed the Yemeni government’s commitment to working closely with the U.S. administration and the international community to implement the re-designation decision while ensuring the necessary guarantees for the uninterrupted flow of humanitarian aid.
In a post on “X” platform, the President wrote:
“Yemenis have waited long for justice, especially those killed, tortured, detained, displaced, or had their homes destroyed. Designating the Houthis as terrorists is key to accountability and a step toward peace and stability in Yemen and the region.”
He further noted that enhancing this path toward the desired peace requires an urgent global collective approach to support the Yemeni government and avoid delaying the implementation of international legitimacy resolutions, particularly Resolution 2216. He emphasized that tolerating the enemies of peace would only lead to the continuation of the terrorist acts committed by these militias, which he described as the most heinous in history.
