President Al-Alimi Receives UK Ambassador to Discuss Preparations for Yemen Donors’ Conference

Today, Thursday, His Excellency President Dr. Rashad Mohammed Al-Alimi, President of the Presidential Leadership Council, received the UK Ambassador to Yemen, Ms. Abda Sharif.

During the meeting, the UK Ambassador briefed the President on the preparations being led by the United Kingdom for the upcoming international Yemen donors’ conference in New York, scheduled for the 20th of this month. The meeting aims to mobilize political and economic support for the Yemeni government and enhance its capacity to contribute to the protection of international peace and security.

The meeting addressed bilateral relations, developments in national and regional situations, and ways to coordinate between the two friendly countries on various issues of mutual interest.

Furthermore, the meeting discussed the progress of political, economic, and structural reforms, the priorities of the transitional phase, and the international support needed to improve living and humanitarian conditions, which have been exacerbated by Houthi terrorist attacks on oil facilities and maritime cargo vessels.

The President praised the distinguished bilateral relations with the UK, as well as its humanitarian and developmental interventions across various fields. In addition, He noted the British initiative to organize an international conference on Yemen and expressed hope that this would represent an important step in identifying the urgent needs of the Yemeni people, including support for their legitimate government in establishing full control over its national territory.

The President reiterated the Council's and the government's commitment to a comprehensive and just peace approach based on nationally, regionally, and internationally agreed-upon references, particularly Resolution 2216. Moreover, His Excellency emphasized openness to all initiatives aimed at alleviating the suffering of the Yemeni people and achieving their aspirations for security, stability, peace, and development.

His Excellency also reaffirmed Yemen's steadfast position regarding developments in the region, particularly the right of the Palestinian people to establish their independent and fully sovereign state. In this context, President Al-Alimi welcomed the announcement of a ceasefire agreement in the Gaza Strip, brokered by brothers and friends in the State of Qatar, the Arab Republic of Egypt, and the United States of America. He expressed hope that this would lead to an end to all sources of tension and instability in the region.

The meeting was attended by Engineer Badr Basalamah, Advisor to the President of the Presidential Leadership Council for Local Administration, and Major General Saleh Al-Maqaleh, Director of the Office of the President of the Presidential Leadership Council.
