President Al-Alimi Praises Close Partnership with U.S. in Counterterrorism

Today, Sunday, His Excellency President Dr. Rashad Mohammed Alimi, President of the Presidential Leadership Council, received Mr. Jesse Levinson, the Director of the Bureau of South and Central Asia for Counterterrorism at the U.S. Department of State, and Mr. Steven Fagin, the U.S. Ambassador to Yemen.

The meeting focused on bilateral relations between the two friendly nations and their future prospects, particularly in the fields of counterterrorism, combating organized crime, and enhancing the close partnership across various levels.

Discussions also addressed the terrorist threats fueled by the Houthi militias and allied organizations, including grave human rights violations, assaults, and ongoing piracy activities targeting maritime cargo vessels with support from the Iranian regime.

President Al-Alimi highlighted government reform efforts in the security sector, law enforcement agencies, and counterterrorism authorities, including efforts to combat money laundering and organized crime. He also stressed the need for international support to strengthen these capabilities in deterring various threats.

In this context, the President praised the close cooperation between the Republic of Yemen and the United States in the field of counterterrorism. He expressed the Presidential Leadership Council and the government’s hope for increased international pressure on the Houthi militias, including designating them as a terrorist organization, and cutting off their funding and armament sources.

The meeting was attended by Dr. Yahya Al-Shuaibi, Director of the Office of the Presidency of the Republic.
