Taiz
His Excellency President Dr. Rashad Mohammad Al-Alimi, President of the Presidential Leadership Council, emphasized Taiz's pivotal role in the national agenda as a maker of transformation, a source of change, and a center for struggle and national liberation movements in the North and South of the country.
This came during the president ‘s meeting today, Tuesday at Taiz University, along with Dr. Abdullah Al-Alimi and Sheikh Othman Mujalli with local authority leadership, political, civil, women, and youth components in Taiz Governorate.
President Al-Alimi stated that Taiz, which gave rise to revolutionist Al-Noaman and his great companions, men and women, and the city that embraced al-Zubairi, Ali Abdul Moghni al-Sha'bi, Labuza and Badhib had been a launching point to defend Sana'a in the north and a safe-haven and a non-stop supply line for the liberation of the south. Furthermore,Taiz will remain memorable in the national memory as a maker of transformations, a source of change, and a capital of resilience, rejecting racism and tyranny.
At the outset of the meeting, the president of the Presidential Leadership Council asked the attendees to observe a minute of silence for mourning the souls of the martyrs who sacrificed their lives in defense of freedom and the republican system.
The President expressed his own, and his fellow PLC’ members thanks, for the warm welcome they received from the people of Taiz Governorate during their visit along the road to the dear capital of the Governorate.
His Excellency expressed his sincere thanks to the local authority leadership, the governorate leaders, women, youth, and men. Additionally, he extended his thanks to the armed and security forces, the political components, who all contributed to the good organization of this evaluative visit, which with God willing, be followed by other visits.
He stated, "We are here today, along with my fellow Council members and the accompanying ministerial and advisory team, to salute the resilience of the heroes and citizens of this governorate in defending the republic, freedom, dignity, and the values of justice and equality against the Imamate project that our people buried seven decades ago."
The President noted that Taiz, which had been well-known as the goddess of fertility, a niche of love and an everlasting story, it is also the glory, the coast and the ancient port and the most prominent and civilized capital of a state of law in medieval history, the most eternal memory and the greatest fame, generosity and sacrifice.
He also recalled that Taiz is the stronghold of al-Tubba’ the Great who provided the first ideal notion for defeating racism and the Imamate conception by his Rasulia State approach that left rich historical landmarks including schools, bastions and scientists. While the Imamate rulers both the ancients and recent ones only left a legacy of bloodshed, history of invasions and lootings.
He added, "From here, the revolutionists of September and October Revolutions passed together, including the trio of victory in the Epic of the Seventy-Day Battle, Judge al-Iryani, Lieutenant General al-Amri and Captain Abdul-Raqib Abdul-Wahab. Moreover it was here that martyr Ahmed Saif al-Yafei embodied values of cohesiveness between the north and the south in the best way."
He continued : "Here today in this hall, once again their children and grandchildren gather from all over Yemen to affirm that they are all in another legendary epic that left them no choice but victory and establishing a just federal state."
His Excellency the President explained that it is difficult to fully honor Taiz Governorate, which, along with people of other liberated governorates, played a vital role in deterring the Imamate project and keeping the flame of change alive in hearts and across the land. He noted that the best way to repay this governorate's contributions is through complete liberation, ensuring it remains, as it always has been, a launchpad for freedom from the forces of tyranny, colonialism, and priesthood throughout the country.
He considered this to be the responsibility and priority that had been accepted by the people of Taiz throughout the ages. Regardless of the false narratives surrounding their national movement, it will remain an example of selflessness and a genuine tendency for the modern state that all Yemenis deserve.
The President touched upon the challenges and the concerns facing people of the governorate, foremost among them are electricity, water, and all basic services. However, he stressed that sustainable services can only be realized by bringing our exhausted country back to the right and normal path as a secure, independent and stable nation, active member in the Arab Gulf, Arab and international community.
His Excellency the President expressed his own and his fellow Council members’ confidence, that the people of Taiz will not exchange freedom and equal citizenship for any kind of false propaganda. He confirmed that they would never be distracted by initiatives here or there from the suffering of our people in areas controlled by militias, who are bound by chains of oppression and racism after nearly seven decades since the great September revolution. The President touched upon all the initiatives made by the Presidential Leadership Council and the government to push the militias peacemaking, stating, "However, we have not found common ground with them to move forward in this path, as they have only war and destruction as a zero option."
He deemed that supporting the resilience of this governorate, alleviating the suffering of its people, creating job opportunities, improving services, including developing education system, improving local resources, and providing the families of the martyrs and the wounded with the necessary care and support will remain a top priority at all levels.
He noted that based on these principles, this visit commenced with the laying of the foundation stone for the Martyrs' Memorial, which honors the sacrifices of the people of this proud governorate and all the martyrs of the Republic. Additionally, over 260 vital projects funded by the brothers in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and the local authority will be launched in various fields.
His Excellency the President briefed the leaders and components of Taiz on the difficulties and challenges regarding the limited opportunities to achieve the legitimate ambitions and aspirations of the people of Taiz Governorate and the other liberated governorates. Especially in terms of the strategic projects that were planned to be launched before the Houthi terrorist militias carried out their devastating attacks on the oil facilities, which resulted in a loss of about 70% of the state's main resources.
He said “So, the projects that we are launching or laying the foundation stone for today are mostly supported by our brothers in Saudi Arabia, foremost of which are the Faculties of medicine, nursing, pharmacy, the oncology center, the city's power plant, the strategic Al-Turbah to Lahj road, the educational hospital, and an expected Faculty of Dentistry in addition to those projects being implemented by our brothers in the United Arab Emirates in the coastal districts of the governorate."
In this context, he highlighted the generous grant provided by the brothers in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia which played a crucial role in ensuring the continuation of employee salaries at a time when the government is working to improve its own resources toward the goal of self-reliance. Additionally those grants helped reducing the dominance of oil revenues on the state's general budget, which is making a good progress with the support of the brothers and friends, in this aspect.
In conclusion, the President reiterated his thanks and appreciation to the local authority leadership and all the actors in the governorate for their notable role in keeping the voices of citizens heard, especially political components and Consultation and Reconciliation Commission which has set great example in promoting values of tolerance and prioritizing the public interest. He also expressed thanks to the social figures, community leaders, women and youth who have consistently carried the torch of change and innovation in resisting the war and enhancing opportunities for resilience.
He stated, "The governorate has shown a decent level during this visit, and we hope that this will not be a temporary or seasonal measure, but rather a sustainable work program across various sectors."
He emphasized that the Presidential Leadership Council and the government will monitor the performance of the local authority, from the district level to the top at the level of governorate, over the next six months and will report on necessary actions to correct performance and strengthen the presence of state institutions.
The president of the Presidential Leadership Council also pledged to respond to the calls of the wounded through comprehensive solutions that honor their sacrifices for the dignity and pride of our country. His Excellency emphasized his directives to remove armed manifestations from civilian institutions, including the Technical Institute and Al Saqr Sport & Cultural Club. He added: in addition to studying the possibility of renting homes from citizens in conflict areas, to ensure their safety and protecting their private property to the fullest extent.
He also noted his directives to conduct technical studies to rely on renewable energy, especially in the health and agricultural sectors, by taking advantage of the experience supported by the brothers in the United Arab Emirates.
His Excellency the President encouraged universities to focus on technical and qualitative specialization, including artificial intelligence, communication and information systems.
His Excellency the president of the Presidential Leadership Council noted that a few days ago the city of Taiz was celebrating the founding anniversary of the General People's Congress. He extended in this occasion his sincere congratulations to the leadership and members of the party. His Excellency prayed to Allah Amighty to rest the souls of the party’s martyrs, foremost among them the martyr former President Ali Abdullah Saleh and his companion, martyr Aref Al-Zouka.The president called on political and civil forces to show more solidarity, enhance partnerships, and devote themselves for the battle of the Yemeni people as a broad banner and a code of honor for the upcoming phase.
He expressed his confidence that the people of Taiz, burdened by the pains of their governorate, will be very responsible. They will avoid petty disputes and free themselves from being framed as a divided dissenting community. They will recall in every moment what Allah says in the holy Quran “and do not dispute (with one another) lest you lose courage and your strength departs."
