PLC President Checks on Officials After Terrorist Attack on Maashiq Palace, Monitors ‘Dawn of Yemen’
Aden
His Excellency President Dr. Rashad Mohammed Al-Alimi, President of the Presidential Leadership Council (PLC) and Supreme Commander of the Armed Forces, held telephone calls today, Thursday, with PLC members Lt. Gen. Abdulrahman Al-Muharrami and Lt. Gen. Mahmoud Al-Subaihi, as well as Prime Minister Dr. Shaya Al-Zindani. During the call he checked on their safety and that of government members following the terrorist attack launched by Houthi militias using missiles and drones against the presidential palace in Maashiq, in the interim capital, Aden.
President Al-Alimi received an initial briefing from the two PLC members and the prime minister on the impact of the cowardly terrorist attack and the measures taken to address its consequences. He directed the relevant authorities to provide care for the families of the martyrs and the injured. He directed them to complete the investigations, and strengthen the measures needed to protect state institutions and their personnel.
The PLC President stressed that the Houthi terrorist attack on Maashiq was an extension of the militias’ continued attacks on airports, oil facilities, and civilian objects in Yemen and the brotherly Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. He said such attacks also threaten the security of the region and its waterways.
He added that targeting the headquarters of the presidency and government once again exposed the terrorist nature of the Houthi militias and their inability to confront the Yemeni people’s determination to restore their national institutions. He stressed that the state would continue to discharge its constitutional responsibilities with resolve, adding that protecting its sovereign facilities and citizens is a non-negotiable responsibility.
The president directed the relevant military and security authorities to take the necessary measures to protect state institutions, counter terrorist threats, and respond appropriately to the sources of those threats, in accordance with the law and in a manner that ensures the protection of civilians and civilian objects.
Meanwhile, President Al-Alimi, in his capacity as Supreme Commander of the Armed Forces, continued to monitor developments in “Dawn of Yemen” Operation and the progress of military operations on various fronts.
He received briefings from Minister of Defense Lt. Gen. Taher Al-Aqili; Chief of the General Staff and Commander of Joint Operations Lt. Gen. Sagheer bin Aziz; Commander of the Fourth Military Region Maj. Gen. Hamdi Shukri; and the governors of Taiz and Lahj, Nabil Shamsan and Murad Al-Halimi, on the situation on the ground. He was also briefed on the level of emergency response to the humanitarian crisis exacerbated by the escalation of Iranian-backed Houthi terrorist militias.
The briefings included an overview of the results of military operations and strikes carried out by the Armed Forces, with the support of the Coalition to Support Legitimacy, since the launch of “Dawn of Yemen” Operation. According to operational estimates, the strikes have exceeded 17,000 air and ground targets, covering Houthi militia positions, gatherings, and military capabilities across multiple fronts.
President Al-Alimi praised the bravery of the Armed Forces, all military formations, and the popular resistance, commending their fighters for their steadfastness and effectiveness across the various fronts. He also expressed appreciation for the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia’s unwavering fraternal support and the pivotal role of the Coalition to Support Legitimacy in backing the Yemeni state and its armed forces.
He praised the Coalition’s efforts to deter Houthi terrorism, neutralize the militias’ military capabilities, and cut off funding for their terrorist activities.
The president also received reports from the governors of Taiz and Lahj on the humanitarian and service conditions, emergency measures to address waves of displacement and meet the needs of affected families. He received reports on the provision of essential services and the security of supply routes, and efforts to strengthen coordination among local authorities, military leadership, and security agencies. These measures aim to protect civilians and alleviate their humanitarian suffering.
President Al-Alimi was briefed on coercive measures imposed in areas of Taiz governorate infiltrated by Houthi militias. These included forced recruitment and mobilization campaigns, attempts to impose ideological indoctrination programs, and efforts to alter the national identity of educational and community institutions.
He warned of the dangers of these practices and violations, stressing the state’s responsibility to protect citizens and their rights and to hold those involved in such violations accountable in accordance with the law.
President Al-Alimi reiterated that “Dawn of Yemen” Operation would continue in pursuit of its declared objectives: restoring state institutions and extending state authority over the entire national territory, all the way to the capital, Sana’a.
He added that the Houthi militias’ escalation and attacks on state institutions and civilians further underscored the need to end the coup and prevent the monopolization of arms and the use of force outside the framework of the state.
