His Excellency President Dr. Rashad Mohammed Al-Alimi, President of the Presidential Leadership Council( PLC), along with Council member, Tariq Saleh, held a meeting today, Sunday, with governors of Western coastal governorates affected by the  torrential rains and floods, in the presence of Dr. Shaya'e bin Mohsen Al-Zindani, Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates.

The meeting touched upon latest developments in relief efforts in Taiz, Hajjah, and Hodeidah governorates, which were recently hit by heavy rains and floods. The rainy storm caused dozens of victims, and massive destruction to public and private property.

The PLC’s member, Brig. Gen. Tariq Saleh, presented a brief report on latest developments of the natural disaster, local relief efforts by the National Resistance Forces and the coordinated contacts with local authorities and government institutions to enhance access to all affected people and rehabilitate the destroyed services and infrastructure.

The attendees were briefed by governors: Nabil Shamsan of Taiz, Dr. Hassan al-Tahir of Hodeidah, and Major General Abdul Karim Al-Seneini of  Hajjah,  on the preliminary estimates of the damages, human and material losses caused by the climatic change in the three governorates.

The preliminary report noted the destruction of more than 1,500 homes of displaced persons, in addition to severe damage to public and private properties in the districts of Hays and Al-Khawkhah in Al-Hodeidah governorate.

The report also noted that the water network, shelter areas, and main roads in the districts of Midi, Harad, Hayran, and Abs in Hajjah governorate were also damaged.

In Taiz, the raging floods in Maqbanah district destroyed the irrigation canals, large areas of agricultural properties, and water wells. Additionally, there was severe damage to the asphalt roads and agricultural lands between Taiz and Al-Hodeidah governorates through the Mocha district.

Major General Yahya Saleh, commander of the Fifth Military Region, spoke about the course of the humanitarian aid efforts and the additional requirements to alleviate the impact of the disaster.

The briefings highlighted the interventions of the King Salman Humanitarian Aid and Relief Centre (KSRelief), which included relief shipments of more than 1,200 tents, over 1,000 shelter kits, and 5,535 food baskets to the liberated districts of Hajjah governorate.

The meeting approved emergency relief and development interventions under the supervision of the PLC’s  member, Brigadier General Tariq Saleh. This involved coordination with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and concerned government agencies to mobilize regional and international support, including ways to compel the Iran-backed Houthi militias to facilitate access of in-kind and material assistance to the areas under their forcible control.
