President Al-Alimi meets with PM, Governor of Central Bank, ministers and officials concerned with economic and foreign affairs

His Excellency President Dr. Rashad Mohammed Al-Alimi, President of the Presidential Leadership Council, alongside with Council member Abdul Rahman Al-Mahrami, met today, Wednesday, with Dr. Ahmed Awad bin Mubarak, the Prime Minister, Mr. Ahmed Ghaleb, the Governor of the Central Bank, Dr. Shaye’ Al-Zindani, the Minister of Foreign Affairs and Mr. Salem Bin Brik, the Finance Minister, in the presence of Head of the economic team, Hossam Al-Sharjabi, via video call.

The meeting touched upon indicators of economic and institutional performance during the previous period, and the approved spending plan to fulfill the state’s obligations, including regular payment of employee salaries. Furthermore, the meeting discussed improving basic services, the priority of which is providing the oil derivatives necessary to operate electricity plants in the interim capital of Aden and the liberated governorates.

The meeting listened to a presentation by the Prime Minister, the Governor of the Central Bank, and the relevant ministers and officials regarding the economic situation, service performance, and the measures required to improve the state’s access to its sovereign resources.

The meeting also reviewed a report on the financial and monetary situation and coordinated policies between various government agencies to limit the repercussions of the Houthi terrorist attacks on oil installations and international shipping lines. As well as they were briefed on the militias’ destructive measures on the banking sector and their disastrous effects in exacerbating the humanitarian crisis at various levels.

At the meeting, the President of the Presidential Leadership Council and the member of the Council stressed the importance of redoubling government efforts in order to fulfill the state’s imperative obligations, move forward with comprehensive reforms, strengthen the role of the Central Bank, and the Ministries of Foreign Affairs and Finance in mobilizing regional and international support.
