President Al-Alimi Directs to Double the Precautionary Measures to Confront the Effects of Eastern Governorates Depression

Today, Wednesday, His Excellency President Dr. Rashad Mohammed Al-Alimi, President of the Presidential Leadership Council, made a telephone call to the Prime Minister, Dr. Ahmed Awad bin Mubarak, to follow up on developments in the air depression, the effects of which began during the past hours on the eastern governorates with rainfall of varying intensity with the flow of torrential torrents in the two governorates: Al-Mahra and Hadhramaut.
The President of the Presidential Leadership Council was briefed by the Prime Minister on a report about government procedures and measures coordinated with local authorities to confront the repercussions of the depression, and limit its potential effects on citizens, public and private property. His Excellency the President directed the government and local authorities to raise the state of readiness and double precautionary measures. In coordination with various agencies, including military and security agencies, community committees, regional and international organizations, to reduce the effects of the depression, and to work on more sustainable policies to increase the capabilities of early warning centers, and adapt to climate changes in particular, the eastern governorates of the country.
His Excellency the President praised the measures taken by the local authorities in the governorates of Hadhramaut, Al-Mahra, and Shabwa, whether with regard to guidance and early warning, or deploying evacuation and rescue teams, and opening public roads. The Early Warning Center expected that the coming hours would witness rain of varying intensity, reaching heavy levels, in the deserts, plateaus, and coasts of Al-Mahra, Hadhramaut, and Shabwa governorates, in addition to parts of the central, northern, and western governorates.
The Center issued a warning to citizens, in areas where rain is expected, to take caution against thunderstorms, strong winds, falling hail, and not to be in the depths of valleys and flood streams during and after the rain.
The Center also warned vehicle drivers of decreased horizontal visibility, due to rainfall and fog formation, with the possibility of rockslides, especially in mountainous areas. The Center announced that the coasts of Shabwa, Hadhramaut, and Al-Mahra governorates will witness sea turbulence and high waves, and called on seafarers and fishermen to pay attention to this matter in order to ensure their safety.
