President Al-Alimi receives UN Assistant Secretary General

His Excellency President Dr. Rashad Mohammed Al-Alimi, President of the Presidential Leadership Council, received today, Monday, at Al-Maashiq presidential Palace, Mr. Abdallah Al Dardari, the UN Assistant Secretary General, UNDPAssistant Administrator Director of the UNDP Regional Bureau for Arab States, and Mr. Julien Harneis, the UN Resident Coordinator in Yemen, along with their accompanying delegation.

The President of the Presidential Leadership Council was briefed by the UN’s officials on UN’s developmental and humanitarian activities  in Yemen.  Furthermore, President Al-Alimi was briefed on existing and future partnership programs coordinated with the Yemeni government, allies, regional, and international partners.

In  the meeting, President Al-Alimi welcomed the high-level UN delegation . In addition the President welcomed UN’s vital role in developmental and humanitarian fields. He also welcomed UN’s active efforts aimed at alleviating Yemeni people’s suffering caused by the Iran- backed terrorist Houthi militias.

His Excellency the President highlighted the priorities of development and relief work in Yemen. Furthermore, the president stressed the importance of building upon the efforts of the brothers in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates, and Secretariat General of the Gulf Cooperation Council, to address economic, developmental, and humanitarian challenges. He also stressed the need to make  optimal use of UN’s interventions to improve living conditions and strengthen the resilience of local communities.

Al-Dardari and Harneis spoke about the importance of the national  plans that are submitted to the International Community. Additionally they underlined UN’s role in supporting government directions and reforms across various sectors.

In this context, UN Assistant Secretary General reviewed UN’s programs aimed at enhancing Yemeni government's capacity to absorb developmental and humanitarian projects. This includes preparations to deploy international expertise to help in developing a framework for the national economic recovery plan in Yemen.

The meeting was attended by Dr. Yahya Al-Shuaibi, the Director of the Office of the Presidency of the Republic, Dr. Waed Badhib, Minister of Planning and International Cooperation, and a number of officials.
