President Al-Alimi awards MASAM project and the National Program for Land-Mine Action the Medals of Bravery

His Excellency President Dr. Rashad Mohammed Al-Alimi, President of the Presidential Leadership Council, Supreme Commander of the Armed Forces, honored the Saudi Land-Mine Clearing Project (MASAM), represented by its Director General, Osama bin Yousef Al-Gosaibi, and the National Mine Action Program, represented by its Director-General, Brigadier General Amin Al-Uqaili, by awarding them Medal of Bravery.

On June 26, 2023, the President of the Presidential Leadership Council had issued two Republican Decrees granting the Saudi Mine Clearing Project (MASAM), and the National Mine Action Program Medal of Bravery. The award is in recognition of the project’s efforts in clearing land mines on Yemeni soil, materials and unexploded ordnance planted by the terrorist Houthi militias-backed by the Iranian regime. The award was also in appreciation and in commemoration of the sacrifices of their righteous martyrs for the safety of the Yemeni people and their future generations.

Since its launch in mid-2018, Project “Masam”  has been able to clear 55,390,882 square meters and cleared 436,376 mines, explosive devices (IEDs) and unexploded ordnance (UXO). These include 6,494 anti-personnel mines, 143,951 anti-tank mines, and 277,92 unexploded ordnance (UXO), in addition to 8,011 Explosive Devices.

Over the past years, 30 experts working on the project were martyred, while about 47 others sustained varying injuries while carrying out tasks of clearing mines and explosives.

In this context, the Director of the National Mine Action Program, Brigadier General Amin Al-Uqaili, told the Yemeni News Agency (Saba), “The program cleared and removed more than 800,000 terrorist militia mines and war remnants. Bringing the total of mines and unexploded materials removed in the country through the program teams and partners in the Saudi project has reached more than 1,250,000 since 2015.”

The honoring ceremony was attended by Dr. Yahya Al-Shuaibi, the Director of the Office of the Presidency of the Republic, Major General Ahmed Al-Uqaili, the Director of the Office of the Supreme Commander, and Major General Saleh Al-Maqaleh, the Director of the Office of the President of the Presidential Leadership Council.

The honor ceremony was also attended by Brigadier General Haitham Halboub, the Executive Director of the National Mine Action Program, Qasim bin Mohammed Al-Dosari, the Assistant Director General of the Saudi Mine Action Project, and a number of project officials.
