President Al-Alimi receives the US Assistant Secretary of State

His Excellency President Dr. Rashad Mohammed Al-Alimi, President of the Presidential Leadership Council, received today, Sunday, Ms. Barbara A. Leaf, the US Assistant Secretary of State for Near Eastern Affairs, and the US Ambassador to Yemen, Steven Fagin.

The meeting touched upon the bilateral relations between the two friendly countries, ways to strengthen them in all fields, and the American required support at all levels, including alleviating the human suffering caused by the terrorist Houthi militias backed by the Iranian regime.

The meeting also touched on regional developments, the repercussions of the Israeli war against the Palestinian people on international peace and security. In addition to the importance of redoubling efforts for an immediate and sustainable ceasefire, and facilitating the arrival of relief aid that is sorely needed by millions of Palestinians in the occupied territories.

In this context, the President of the Presidential Leadership Council affirmed the firm and principled position of the Republic of Yemen alongside the Palestinian people, their just cause, and their right to restore their independent, fully sovereign state.

The President of the Presidential Leadership Council updated the American official on the latest developments in the Yemeni situation, including the peace efforts led by the United Nations based on the results of the laudable efforts of the brothers in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.

His Excellency also referred to the repercussions of the terrorist Houthi militia attacks against international shipping lines in the Red Sea and the Gulf of Aden, on the living conditions of the Yemeni people, who are already suffering from one of the worst humanitarian crises in the world.

His Excellency the President renewed the warning of the dangers of the continued flow of Iranian weapons and smuggled funds to the Houthi militias and the terrorist organizations interworking with them, on international peace and security. His Excellency further, stressed the importance of supporting the Yemeni government to impose its control over the entire national territory, in implementation of the resolutions of international legitimacy, especially Resolution 2216 as an ideal road map for disarming rogue militias, and bringing peace and stability to Yemen.

The meeting was attended by Dr. Yahya Al-Shuaibi, the Director of the Office of the Presidency of the Republic, and Dr. Ahmed Awad bin Mubarak, the Minister of Foreign and Expatriate Affairs.
