The President arrives in Dubai to participate in the Climate Summit

His Excellency President Dr. Rashad Mohammed Al-Alimi, President of the Presidential Leadership Council, arrived in Dubai, today Tuesday, in the United Arab Emirates, to participate in the twenty-eighth Climate Summit (COP 28), which kicks off its high-level work Thursday, the day after tomorrow.

The President of the Presidential Leadership Council and his accompanying delegation were received at Al Maktoum Airport by the UAE Minister of Justice Abdullah Sultan Al Nuaimi, the UAE Ambassador to Yemen Mohammed Hamad Al Zaabi, and the Yemeni Ambassador to the UAE Fahd Al Menhali.

The President of the Presidential Leadership Council will deliver Yemen’s speech to the World Summit, reviewing the devastating effects of climate change in Yemen, especially on livelihoods, environmental resources, basic services, infrastructure. His Excellency will point out to the international support required to limit its repercussions, improve national capabilities to confront and predict them, and constantly adapt to its fluctuations.

His Excellency the President will also participate in high-level sessions to evaluate the level of implementation of local and international climate commitments, including participation in the summit of leaders of the Group 77 and China (G 77+ China) which will be held in conjunction with the conference activities.

The President of the Presidential Leadership Council and the government delegation will discuss international funds to confront the effects of climate change in Yemen as part of global commitments to support developing countries by about $100 billion annually in accordance with the Paris Agreement and the Glasgow Summit. 

The Conference of the Parties is the highest international decision-making authority under the United Nations Framework Convention, which meets annually to review and strengthen collective efforts to address the effects of climate change in the world. More than 190 countries participate in this forum at the level of leaders and heads of government.
