President meets with the Emergency Committee for confronting the effects of “Tej”

His Excellency President Dr. Rashad Mohammed Al-Alimi, President of the Presidential Leadership Council, held a meeting this Wednesday evening with the Governor of Al-Mahara, Mohammed Ali Yasser, the governorate’s leaders, and the local emergency committee to confront the effects of the tropical cyclone that hit Al-Mahara this week.

During the meeting, which was attended by the Minister of Public Works and Roads, Engineer Salem Al-Aboudi, the President of the Presidential Leadership Council listened to an update on the effects of the tropical storm accompanied by heavy rains and torrential torrents that flooded large areas of Al-Mahara Governorate, especially in the Al-Ghaydah and Haswain districts, which were the most affected.

The Governor of Al-Mahara, Mohammed Ali Yasser, the Secretary-General of the Local Council, Salem Nimer, the deputies governor, and the directors of service offices, provided information about the course of relief work for the afflicted families, the damage to the infrastructure, and urgent measures to resume the provision of basic services during the coming hours, at the forefront of which are the electricity and water sectors and opening the roads.

His Excellency the President stressed the need to intensify coordinated efforts with all concerned parties, to restart vital sectors, address the conditions of the displaced in temporary shelter centers, and help them return safely to their homes.

The President of the Presidential Leadership Council also stressed the priority of accelerating relief interventions and supplies of basic services, including opening roads for the flow of humanitarian aid, a comprehensive assessment of the disaster, ways to improve the response, and national capabilities in managing crises and the repercussions of climate change.

In this context, His Excellency the President assured citizens of continuing to work around the clock in order to reach all those affected, and to rehabilitate the destroyed services and infrastructure with the support of brothers and friends in various fields.

The meeting was attended by Major General Saleh Al-Maqaleh, the Director of the Office of the President of the Presidential Leadership Council.
