The Presidency of the Republic of Yemen mourned, with deep sorrow and profound grief, former President and veteran national leader Field Marshal Abdrabbuh Mansur Hadi. The former President Hadi passed away today, Thursday, after a life devoted to struggle and sincere national service in the service of his homeland and people.

Following is the statement:

In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful

“O reassured soul, return to your Lord, well-pleased and pleasing [to Him]. Enter among My servants, and enter My Paradise.”

(“Allah Almighty has spoken the truth.”)

With profound sorrow and grief, and with hearts believing in Allah’s will and decree, the Presidency of the Republic of Yemen mourns to all the great Yemeni people, and to the Arab and Islamic nations, the passing of former President Field Marshal Abdrabbuh Mansur Hadi, who passed away today, Thursday, after a long national journey, during which he held the highest military and political offices. Throughout decisive stages in Yemen’s contemporary history, he embodied the model of a statesman committed to the republic, constitutional legitimacy, the unity of Yemen, and the supreme interests of his people amid the most difficult and complex circumstances and turning points.

The Presidency recalls, in this grave loss, the national roles played by the late president in leading the transitional period and his contribution to achieving a peaceful transfer of power that spared Yemen from wider conflict during an extremely sensitive phase. It also commends his responsible sponsorship of the Comprehensive National Dialogue Conference, as one of the most significant inclusive political milestones agreed upon by Yemenis to build a just federal state founded upon partnership, equal citizenship, the rule of law, and the protection of rights and freedoms.

The state leadership also recalls the late president’s stances in defending Yemen’s unity, sovereignty, and territorial integrity, confronting the coup against state institutions and national constants, and his steadfast national stance against the new Imamate project. The Presidency further praised his commitment to preserving Yemen’s Arab identity and safeguarding its independent national decision-making, as well as his adherence to national, regional, and international references.

It also affirmed his support for the Yemeni people’s right to restore their state and institutions, end the Houthi coup backed by the Iranian regime, and achieve a just and comprehensive peace.

The Presidency commends the wise leadership of President Abdrabbuh Mansur Hadi, who led the Yemeni state through one of the most difficult periods in the country’s history amid war, coup, and unprecedented humanitarian and economic crises. During this period, he succeeded in preserving regional and international recognition of the Yemeni state and its legitimate institutions. He also remained committed to prioritizing the national interest amid the country’s difficult circumstances.

This culminated in his announcement of the transfer of power through a responsible national consensus and the formation of the Presidential Leadership Council in 2022, in an effort to unify national ranks, strengthen efforts to restore state institutions, and end the suffering of the Yemeni people.

The Presidency also expresses deep appreciation for the sincere fraternal stances demonstrated by the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia — leadership, government, and people — toward the late president throughout the years of his residence in the Kingdom. The Presidency also expressed gratitude for the care, loyalty, and respect extended to him and his family in a manner befitting his national stature and leadership role, reflecting the depth of the historic and brotherly ties between the two countries and peoples.

The legacy of President Abdrabbuh Mansur Hadi shall remain present in the memory of Yemenis through the lessons he embodied in patience, wisdom, and prioritizing the national interest.

He also stood alongside the aspirations of the Yemeni people for freedom, dignity, and an inclusive state. Such a state, the statement affirmed, should neither be monopolized by any group nor held hostage to transnational projects of violence, sectarianism, and destruction.

In this painful loss, the President of the Presidential Leadership Council, together with council members and the government, extends sincere condolences and heartfelt sympathy to the family of the deceased, his companions and supporters, and to all the Yemeni people.

The statement prayed to Almighty Allah to bestow upon him His vast mercy, grant him eternal paradise, and reward him abundantly for his service to the homeland and its people. It also prayed that Allah grant patience and solace to his family, relatives, and loved ones.

The Presidency of the Republic announces official mourning and the lowering of flags to half-mast for three days. It also announces the opening of condolence registers at home and abroad in honor of the late president’s legacy and national stature.

Indeed, to Allah we belong and to Him we shall return.
