President Al-Alimi Praises Cooperation with China on 70th Anniversary of Bilateral Relations

President Dr. Rashad Al-Alimi, President of the Presidential Leadership Council, received today, Sunday,  Mr. Shao Zheng, the Chargé d’Affaires of the Embassy of the People’s Republic of China to Yemen.

The meeting discussed bilateral relations and ways to enhance cooperation between the two countries in the economic, security, and humanitarian fields.

President Al-Alimi expressed pride in the 70th anniversary of Yemeni-Chinese relations, noting that the ties between the two friendly peoples extend far beyond their modern political foundations and are rooted in a long shared history.

The President of the Presidential Leadership Council praised China’s steadfast stances in support of Yemen’s unity, sovereignty, and territorial integrity. He affirmed that, given its strategic location, Yemen is an important partner within the Belt and Road Initiative. He stressed that Yemen’s stability is not only a Yemeni interest, but also a direct interest for China and for the security of global trade and energy supplies.

President Al-Alimi also commended the recent development cooperation agreement signed between the two countries. He expressed his aspiration to expand cooperation in the areas of ports, renewable energy, infrastructure, telecommunications, and human capacity development.

His Excellency stressed that investing in the Yemeni state and its legitimate institutions represents the most sustainable and secure investment for the future of the region and international trade. In this context, he pointed to the serious security threat posed by the Houthi terrorist militias as part of a cross-border regional Iranian network.

President Al-Alimi renewed Yemen’s firm commitment to the One China principle and support for China’s sovereignty and territorial integrity. He also expressed Yemen’s aspiration for a greater Chinese role during the recovery and reconstruction phase, and to benefit from Chinese expertise across all sectors.

The meeting was attended by Dr. Yahya Al-Shuaibi, Director of the Presidency Office.
