His Excellency President Dr. Rashad Mohammed Al-Alimi, President of the Presidential Leadership Council, received today, Sunday, Ms. Abda Sharif, the United Kingdom’s Ambassador to Yemen.

The meeting discussed bilateral relations between the two friendly countries and the latest national developments at all levels.

During the meeting, the President praised the bilateral relations between the two friendly countries and the British humanitarian and development interventions across various sectors. He also commended the United Kingdom’s support for the Presidential Leadership Council and the Yemeni government, as well as London’s continued commitment to supporting stability and economic and humanitarian reforms in Yemen.

President Al-Alimi affirmed his keenness to strengthen the partnership with the United Kingdom as the penholder on Yemen at the UN Security Council and as an influential partner in supporting the Yemeni state, international maritime security, and regional stability.

In this context, the President pointed to the importance of the current moment in addressing the roots of the Iranian threat rather than merely containing its immediate repercussions. He stressed that the world needs an approach based on sustainable gains for security and stability, rather than limiting efforts to managing temporary crises. He also emphasized the importance of taking decisive action to dismantle proxy groups and armed organizations affiliated with Tehran in the region. He described these groups as the most dangerous tool for undermining national states, blackmailing the global economy, and threatening international waterways.

The President of the Presidential Leadership Council renewed the Council’s and the government’s support for any genuine efforts aimed at de-escalation and achieving sustainable peace. He said sustainable peace cannot be realized without addressing sources of threat on land and at sea and ending the menace posed by cross-border militias.

President Al-Alimi also addressed recent security developments, including assassination crimes targeting civilian figures. He affirmed that these operations are primarily intended to undermine the confidence of citizens and international partners in the liberated governorates.

The meeting was attended by Dr. Yahya Al-Shuaibi, the Director of the Office of the Presidency of the Republic.
