President Al-Alimi Discusses Counterterrorism and Armed Militias with Somali President

His Excellency President Dr. Rashad Mohammed Al-Alimi, President of the Presidential Leadership Council, accompanied by Council Member Lt. Gen. Mahmoud Al-Subaihi met today, Saturday, with his brother, His Excellency President Dr. Hassan Sheikh Mohamud, President of the Federal Republic of Somalia.
The meeting addressed the distinguished historical relations between the two brotherly countries and prospects for enhancing and developing them across various fields. The two sides also exchanged views on a number of regional issues and developments, foremost among them coordination of counterterrorism efforts and confronting shared security challenges. The discussion included the growing activities of armed groups and militias, their cross-border threats, the protection of international maritime navigation, and regional stability.
President Al-Alimi commended the sincere fraternal stances of the Federal Republic of Somalia alongside Yemen and its political leadership in various regional and international forums, particularly through Somalia’s membership in the UN Security Council.
The President reaffirmed Yemen’s firm support for the Somali government, as well as for Somalia’s unity, territorial integrity, and sovereignty over its entire national territory.
The meeting was attended by Maj. Gen. Mohammed Ayda, Head of the State Security Service, Maj. Gen. Saleh Al-Maqaleh, Director of the Office of the President, and Mr. Abdullah Al-Saqtari, Yemen’s Ambassador to Djibouti.
