The Mauritanian foreign minister conveyed to President Al-Alimi the greetings of President El Ghazouani and his wishes for the President’s continued good health and happiness, as well as security, stability, and peace for the Yemeni people.

For his part, the President of the Presidential Leadership Council asked the Mauritanian minister to convey his greetings, and those of the Council members, to President El Ghazouani. He also expressed his wishes for the Mauritanian president’s good health and well-being, and for further progress and prosperity for the brotherly Mauritanian people.

The meeting discussed the distinguished relations between the two brotherly countries and prospects for enhancing and developing them across various fields. In addition it discussed the mechanisms for coordination and consultation in regional and international forums regarding shared challenges.

President Al-Alimi praised the longstanding historical relations between the Republic of Yemen and the Islamic Republic of Mauritania, as well as the deep Arab, Islamic, and cultural ties binding the two countries and peoples. He also expressed appreciation for Mauritania’s supportive stances toward the Yemeni people, their political leadership, and Yemen’s unity and territorial integrity.

The President underscored the importance of building on bilateral relations and expanding areas of cooperation and political and diplomatic coordination between the two countries, particularly in light of current regional challenges. He noted that brotherly Mauritania has always possessed a deep understanding of the Yemeni situation and its complexities, owing to its responsible Arab and diplomatic role and its early engagement with developments in Yemen.

In this context, President Al-Alimi commended the role played by former Mauritanian Foreign Minister Ismail Ould Cheikh Ahmed during his tenure leading peace efforts as the United Nations Special Envoy to Yemen. He described him as one of the international envoys with the deepest understanding of the Yemeni file and its political, social, and regional interconnection.

President Al-Alimi reaffirmed the steadfast position of the Presidential Leadership Council and the government in support of a just and comprehensive peace, despite the failure of political efforts over recent years due to the intransigence of the Iran-backed Houthi terrorist militias.

The President of the Presidential Leadership Council also addressed the ongoing transformations in the liberated governorates, including economic and financial reforms, as well as efforts to unify security and military decision-making. He further highlighted measures to strengthen the presence of state institutions with sincere support by brothers in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.
