His Excellency President Dr. Rashad Mohammed Al-Alimi, President of the Presidential Leadership Council, received today, Wednesday, the Ambassador of the Federal Republic of Germany to Yemen, Mr. Thomas Schneider.

The meeting discussed the distinguished bilateral relations between the two friendly countries, as well as the latest local developments. It also addressed the required German and European interventions to support government reform efforts and alleviate the suffering of the Yemeni people caused by the Iran-backed Houthi terrorist militia.

The President commended the Federal Republic of Germany’s stance in support of the Yemeni people and their political leadership, as well as its pivotal role within the European Union in backing the sovereignty of nation-states and regional stability. He also affirmed the Republic of Yemen’s support for Germany’s bid for a permanent seat on the United Nations Security Council.

The meeting also addressed regional developments and their repercussions on national, regional, and international stability, in addition to the Iranian regime’s attempts to drag Yemen into a wider conflict through its Houthi militias and affiliated terrorist organizations.

The President of the Presidential Leadership Council expressed his aspiration for a firm European stance toward threats posed by the Houthi militias to the security of maritime routes. He stressed that this danger will remain a persistent threat as long as Iran’s proxies continue to control parts of Yemeni territory.

His Excellency underscored the importance of ending the threat rather than containing it, and of seizing the current moment—amid the weakening of the Iranian regime and its terrorist militias—to achieve lasting peace and stability in Yemen and the region.

The meeting was attended by Dr. Yahya Al-Shuaibi, Director of the Office of the Presidency, and Ms. Sophia Bögner, Deputy Ambassador.
