Aden
His Excellency President Dr. Rashad Mohammed Al-Alimi, President of the Presidential Leadership Council, made a phone call on Friday to Council member Tareq Saleh to review relief efforts for those affected by the heavy rains and torrential floods that struck the western districts of Taiz Governorate. The floods were caused by a low-pressure system that entered large parts of the country in recent hours.
The President was briefed by the Council member on a preliminary report regarding the measures and arrangements coordinated with government agencies and local authorities in Taiz and Al-Hodeidah governorates.
The report also included interventions carried out by the Humanitarian Cell of the National Resistance to assist those affected by the weather depression.
It resulted in a number of casualties and caused extensive damage to public and private property, agricultural lands, infrastructure, and essential services.
President Al-Alimi commended the efforts of Council member Tareq Saleh and the relevant authorities in mitigating the impact of the disaster. He stressed the importance of intensifying such efforts and coordinating with regional and international organizations to continue providing necessary aid and emergency assistance to the affected families.
The President also expressed his sincere condolences to the families of the victims, wishing a speedy recovery to the injured and the safe return of those missing.
The call also addressed urgent interventions required from government institutions, foremost the Ministry of Public Works and its affiliated bodies, to reopen roads, restore basic services, and begin rehabilitating the damaged infrastructure.
Meanwhile, the Meteorological Forecasting and Early Warning Center of the General Authority of Civil Aviation and Meteorology expected continued heavy thunderstorms across most parts of the country in the coming hours.
The center issued strong warnings to citizens against being in flood paths and valley streams, and to drivers over reduced visibility.
It also warned fishermen and sea-goers in the Arabian Sea, the western coasts, Bab al-Mandab, and the Red Sea of rough seas and high waves.
