President Al-Alimi: Regional Stability Depends on Deterring Iranian Regime and Its Armed Militias
Riyadh
His Excellency President of the Presidential Leadership Council, Dr. Rashad Mohammed Al-Alimi, received today, Monday, Ms. Abda Sharif, the Ambassador of the United Kingdom to Yemen.
The meeting discussed the deep-rooted historical relations between the two friendly countries and ways to strengthen them across various fields. It also addressed the priorities of British and international support for the government’s efforts to restore economic recovery and enhance its capacity to build state institutions, enforce security and stability, and confront shared threats, particularly in counterterrorism, organized crime, and the protection of international navigation.
The discussions also underscored the importance of tightening sanctions on the Iran-backed Houthi militias and deterring their grave human rights violations, most recently the treacherous attack on a gathering of displaced persons in Hairan District of Hajjah Governorate.
During the meeting, President Al-Alimi praised the depth of the historic relations between the two friendly countries and the honorable British stances in support of the Yemeni people and their political leadership. He also commended the United Kingdom’s role within the UN Security Council as the penholder on Yemen and as a key partner in supporting the peace process and humanitarian response.
The President also addressed regional developments and the unprecedented military escalation currently unfolding in the region, including Iran’s blatant attacks on countries in the region. He described the attacks as a natural outcome of the Iranian regime’s policy of exporting chaos and undermining regional and international stability.
President Al-Alimi noted that the current developments reinforce the international community’s conviction regarding the destabilizing role of the Iranian regime and its rogue militias. He stressed that stability in Yemen, the region, and global maritime corridors depends on ending the coup, restoring state institutions, and extending the authority of the Yemeni government over the entire national territory.
The President of the Presidential Leadership Council also reviewed the measures recently taken by the government in response to these developments at the political, economic, military, and security levels. These include the approval of the government program and the state’s general budget, and the continuation of a comprehensive reform program.
In this context, he praised the leading role of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia in supporting the national economy, alleviating the suffering of the Yemeni people, and helping realize their aspirations for security, stability, and peace.
The meeting was attended by Dr. Yahya Al-Shuaibi, the Director of the Office of the Presidency.
