His Excellency President Dr. Rashad Mohammed Al-Alimi, President of the Presidential Leadership Council, received today, Thursday, Mr. Patrick Simonet, the Head of the European Union Mission. The meeting discussed avenues of cooperation and partnership, developments on the national scene, and the European support required to strengthen government efforts in capacity building, improving services, and restoring confidence in international financial institutions.

During the meeting, the President commended the political, humanitarian, and developmental support provided by Europe, particularly its backing of the Humanitarian Response Plan. He described it as a vital lifeline for millions of Yemenis amid one of the world’s most complex humanitarian crises.

His Excellency addressed domestic developments, foremost among them the recent transformations in efforts to restore state institutions, reinforce sovereign decision-making, and strengthen the strategic partnership with the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia across all levels.

The President reiterated that the Houthi terrorist militias remain the root of destruction, turning Yemen into a platform threatening regional and international security, including global trade routes. He emphasized that any international approach that ignores this reality or equates the state with militias will not lead to sustainable peace but rather to the reproduction of the crisis.

President Al-Alimi lauded the pivotal role played by the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia in supporting constitutional legitimacy, mediating de-escalation efforts, and backing political, economic, and humanitarian initiatives. He noted the Kingdom’s recognition that Yemen’s security is integral to regional security.

His Excellency called on the European Union to support these efforts and play a more active role in the upcoming phase, including institutional support, stabilizing security, advancing the peace process. He called on them to reject unilateral measures, and support a genuine transition from the logic of war to that of the state.

The President stressed that Yemen’s stability is no longer merely an internal matter but is crucial to international maritime security, energy security, supply chains, and enhancing efforts to combat terrorism and irregular migration.

He reaffirmed that the Southern Issue is a legitimate cause that cannot be resolved through force. He also stressed that it cannot be addressed through unilateral representation, referring to ongoing arrangements for a comprehensive Southern–Southern dialogue under the generous auspices of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.

President Al-Alimi also expressed hope for an active European role in supporting government efforts to address economic challenges and fulfill comprehensive economic, financial, and administrative reform requirements.

The meeting was attended by Dr. Yahya Al-Shuaibi, Director of the Presidency Office.
