His Excellency Dr. Rashad Mohammed Al-Alimi, President of the Presidential Leadership Council, today Thursday, received the government negotiating delegation concerned with the detainees file, headed by Mr. Hadi Heij, member of Shura Council.

During the meeting, the President was briefed by the delegation on the outcomes of the latest round of negotiations with the Houthi terrorist militias, sponsored by the United Nations and held in the Omani capital, Muscat. The talks resulted in the signing of an agreement for the release of 2,900 detainees and abductees, foremost among them the struggler Mohammed Qahtan, who is covered by the United Nations Security Council resolution.

The President of the Presidential Leadership Council congratulated the Yemeni people on this humanitarian agreement, expressing hope that this breakthrough would represent a ray of hope for thousands of Yemeni families who have long endured the pain of loss and waiting. He reaffirmed the commitment of the Presidential Leadership Council and the government to making the humanitarian dimension, the protection of civilians, and family reunification a constant priority in all efforts aimed at restoring security, stability, and peace in the country.

On behalf of himself, the Council members, and the government, the President praised the efforts of the negotiating team, as well as those of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, the Sultanate of Oman, the United Nations, and the International Committee of the Red Cross, which culminated in reaching this agreement. He renewed the Council’s and the government’s commitment to spare no effort to secure the release of all detainees, abductees, and forcibly disappeared persons held in the prisons of the Houthi terrorist militias and to reunite them with their grieving families.

His Excellency stressed the importance of exerting maximum pressure on the Houthi militias to release all detainees unconditionally and end their suffering, in accordance with the principle of “all for all".

He also called on the international community to shoulder its responsibilities regarding the continued grave human rights violations in areas forcibly controlled by the militias. This includes campaigns of abductions and arbitrary detention targeting dozens of activists, United Nations staff, personnel of international organizations, and diplomatic missions.

The meeting was attended by Dr. Yahya Al-Shuaibi, Director of the Office of the Presidency of the Republic.
