President of Presidential Leadership Council Receives GCC Secretary-General
Riyadh
His Excellency President Dr. Rashad Mohammed Al-Alimi, President of the Presidential Leadership Council, received today, Wednesday, Mr. Jassim Mohammed Al-Budaiwi, the Secretary-General of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC).
During the meeting, the President of the Presidential Leadership Council affirmed the depth of the fraternal and historic relations between the Republic of Yemen and the GCC framework. He renewed, on his own behalf and on behalf of his fellow Council members and the government, his high appreciation for the GCC and its General Secretariat for standing alongside the Yemeni people and their constitutional legitimacy at various stages. He highlighted the GCC’s active role in supporting the Yemeni cause politically and diplomatically, preserving Yemen’s presence on regional and international agendas, and coordinating positions at all levels.
President Al-Alimi noted that Yemen constitutes the natural strategic depth of the GCC states, and that Yemen’s stability is an integral part of Gulf security and stability. He expressed confidence in the Yemeni people’s ability and determination to overcome current challenges and to strengthen paths of integration and engagement within the Gulf system.
The President briefed the GCC Secretary-General on recent developments in the Republic of Yemen, as well as on the good offices led by the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates to de-escalate tensions and restore normalcy. His Excellency commended the content of the GCC’s latest statement, which reaffirmed support for the Presidential Leadership Council and the government, and praised the responsible and balanced role played by the GCC General Secretariat alongside the Yemeni people and their political leadership.
President Al-Alimi recalled the role of GCC countries in sponsoring peace and stability efforts in Yemen, beginning with the Gulf Initiative and the Riyadh Agreement, and culminating in the Yemeni-Yemeni consultations that led to the declaration of the transfer of power and the formation of the Presidential Leadership Council.
He stressed that this generous sponsorship established inclusive political references that continue to serve as a roadmap for any sustainable solution. He underscored that the gains achieved through the Riyadh consultations require concerted efforts to protect them and to realize their intended objectives, foremost among them the restoration of state institutions and the achievement of peace and stability throughout Yemen.
The President of the Presidential Leadership Council reaffirmed the Council’s commitment to resolving the Southern Issue in accordance with the outcomes of the Riyadh consultations and all guaranteeing references, as a just national cause that ensures the fulfillment of legitimate aspirations in line with the popular will.
He also highlighted the significant economic and humanitarian support provided by GCC states to Yemen, whether to the state budget and the Central Bank, or through humanitarian and development assistance, fuel derivatives, and mine-clearance efforts. He noted that this generous support was not merely relief, but a pillar of stability that helped prevent the comprehensive collapse of the Yemeni state.
President Al-Alimi further renewed his praise for the General Secretariat’s initiative to sponsor an international conference on food security and donors for Yemen, aimed at improving livelihoods and supporting economic stability and basic services.
For his part, the GCC Secretary-General reaffirmed the firm Gulf stance in support of the Yemeni people and the strong commitment to backing the Presidential Leadership Council and the government in achieving security and stability. He also emphasized the commitment to reaching a comprehensive political solution in accordance with the Gulf Initiative and its implementation mechanism, the outcomes of the Comprehensive National Dialogue Conference, and relevant UN Security Council resolutions—particularly Resolution 2216—in a manner that preserves Yemen’s sovereignty, unity, and territorial integrity.
The meeting was attended by Dr. Yahya Al-Shuaibi, the Director of the Office of the Presidency, and Mr. Sarhan Al-Munikhir, the Head of the GCC Mission.
