Riyadh
His Excellency Dr. Rashad Mohammed Al-Alimi, President of the Presidential Leadership Council, today Thursday, called on the people of Hadhramaut and Al-Mahra—along with their political, tribal, and social forces—to rally behind the state and local authorities in order to fulfill their responsibilities to citizens and reinforce security and stability.
He also urged them to help contain the consequences of the ongoing security and military escalation in the two governorates. He warned that the escalation has already begun to affect the economic and living conditions, as evidenced by the International Monetary Fund’s suspension of its key activities in the country.
A source in the Office of the Presidency stated that President Al-Alimi, during two phone calls with Hadhramaut Governor Salem Al-Khanbashi and Al-Mahra Governor Mohammed Ali Yaser, stressed the necessity of withdrawing all forces that have arrived from outside the two governorates.
He also emphasized the importance of enabling local authorities to manage their security and service-related affairs in accordance with the constitution and the law.
The source added that the President reiterated earlier directives to launch a comprehensive investigation into all human rights violations associated with the unilateral measures taken by the Southern Transitional Council, including arbitrary arrests, enforced disappearances, and assaults on homes and public facilities—while emphasizing the principles of accountability and non-impunity.
The President cautioned against any further escalation or bloodshed that could deepen the economic and humanitarian crisis. He affirmed that national priorities must remain focused on confronting the Iran-backed Houthi terrorist militia and fulfilling the aspirations of Yemenis for security, stability, and peace.
President Al-Alimi also praised the efforts of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia to de-escalate tensions and support stability in Hadhramaut and Al-Mahra, reaffirming the state’s full support for these efforts and its commitment to strengthening the role of local authorities in safeguarding social cohesion and protecting citizens’ interests.
Furthermore, the President urged to prioritize the public interest, preserve the gains achieved over recent years, and remain focused on the principal battle against the Houthi militia and terrorist organizations aligned with it. He underscored the importance of maintaining the confidence of regional and international partners—foremost among them the Arab Coalition led by Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates, as well as the Gulf Cooperation Council, which serves as the main sponsor of the current national consensus.
The source concluded by noting that the President of the Presidential Leadership Council stressed the need to restore conditions in Hadhramaut and Al-Mahra to their previous state, uphold the references of the transitional phase, and enable the government and local authorities to carry out their constitutional duties. He warned that the difficult living conditions cannot withstand the opening of additional internal fronts.
