President Dr. Rashad Mohammed Al-Alimi, President of the Presidential Leadership Council, received today, Wednesday, at the Ma’ashiq Palace, Mr. Thomas Schneider, the Ambassador of the Federal Republic of Germany to Yemen.

The meeting reviewed the distinguished bilateral relations between the two friendly countries. It also touched on recent domestic developments and the German and European support required to reinforce progress in government reforms and ease the suffering caused by the Iranian-backed Houthi militia.

President Al-Alimi praised Germany’s stance in support of the Yemeni people and their political leadership. He also commended Germany’s development interventions as one of the largest donors to the Humanitarian Response Plan.

The talks also addressed the economic reforms carried out by the government and the Central Bank, and the need for international support to continue this path and strengthen state institutions so they can meet their essential obligations.

The meeting further discussed the ongoing Houthi threats to international peace and security, their close ties with the Iranian regime, and their cooperation with terrorist groups in Yemen and the region. It also highlighted the growing risks resulting from the continued flow of Iranian weapons to the Houthi militia.

President Al-Alimi reaffirmed the commitment of the Council and the government to a comprehensive and sustainable peace, based on the nationally, regionally, and internationally agreed references, particularly Security Council Resolution 2216.

The meeting was attended by Dr. Waed Badeeb, the Minister of Planning and International Cooperation and Major General Saleh Al-Maqaleh, the Director of the Office of the President of the Presidential Leadership Council.
