Presidential Council Continues Discussion on Economic Developments and Approves Measures to Promote Reforms

The Presidential Leadership Council held a meeting today, Wednesday, chaired by His Excellency President Dr. Rashad Mohammed Al-Alimi, President of the Council, with the participation of members: Sultan Al-Aradah, Abdulrahman Al-Mahrami, and Dr. Abdullah Al-Alimi. Members Aidarous Al-Zubaidi, Tariq Saleh, and Othman Mujalli joined via video conference, while member Faraj Al-Bahsani was absent with excuse.
The meeting, attended by Mr. Salem Bin Bureik, the Prime Minister and Mr. Ahmed Ghaleb, Governor of the Central Bank, focused on continuing discussions on economic and financial conditions. The meeting reviewed the implementation of the Council’s previous resolutions on the reform matrix and the economic recovery plan. Topics included measures to support the national currency, mobilize domestic and external resources, strengthen confidence with donor communities, reduce the state budget deficit, and improve basic services across all governorates.
The Council commended the noticeable improvement in the national currency, essential commodities, public spending control, and banking compliance. It stressed the importance of building on these gains to enhance public finance management and expand fiscal space for the economic recovery plan.
In this context, the Council approved a package of executive measures to advance comprehensive reforms. These include tightening oversight of land, sea, and air ports; expanding electronic linkage of sovereign revenues; and improving efficiency in government spending across sectors.
The Presidential Leadership Council reaffirmed its support for the government in implementing reform-related resolutions and ensuring full access to public revenues in accordance with the Constitution and applicable laws. The Council also emphasized empowering the Central Bank with all necessary tools to manage monetary policy, curb speculation, and stabilize the national currency. It underscored the need for stronger coordination among institutions to implement the approved reform matrix promptly and systematically.
The Council expressed deep appreciation to the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates for their continued support of Yemen’s economic stability and humanitarian relief efforts. It also acknowledged the valuable assistance of international partners, which led to the resumption of International Monetary Fund activities in the country after an 11-year hiatus.
The meeting further discussed several items on its agenda, including the progress of previous directives related to resource unification and performance oversight. It adopted necessary measures and recommendations, including notifying local authorities and relevant entities.
The meeting was attended by Dr. Yahya Al-Shuaibi, the Director of the Presidency Office.
