During the ceremony at Ma’ashiq Palace, President Al-Alimi said the honor represents a testimony of pride in the role of the late Aftihan and all men and women who serve their country with integrity and dedication. He described her as a model of commitment, honesty, selflessness, and responsibility in public service.
The President emphasized that awarding the medal is not only a tribute to a courageous woman who fulfilled her mission faithfully but also a message of appreciation to every Yemeni public servant, especially women working quietly under difficult conditions caused by the Houthi militia supported by Iran.
President Al-Alimi affirmed that the government treated the cases of Aftihan Al-Mashhari and student Hussein Al-Soufi as a national and moral responsibility from the very beginning. The Presidency, in coordination with local authorities, directly supervised the security campaign that led to the arrest of the main perpetrators. The Specialized Criminal Prosecution has begun investigations in preparation for referral to the competent court.
He expressed full support for law enforcement and judicial authorities to complete investigations independently, pursue fugitives, and hold accountable anyone found complicit or negligent.
The President also praised local and security authorities in Taiz for their recent efforts to clear armed groups from public and private buildings, reinforcing state authority and public order.
His Excellency noted that previous measures had been taken to honor the memory of the late Aftihan Al-Mashhari, stressing that true tribute lies in achieving justice and correcting the circumstances that led to her assassination and that of many others.
President Al-Alimi reiterated the Council’s and government’s understanding of the victims’ families’ demands for justice and affirmed that their pursuit of accountability is a national and moral priority. He pledged that the state will work through all available means to heal the wounds of the victims and restore public confidence in justice and security institutions.
