His Excellency President Dr. Rashad Mohammed Al-Alimi, President of the Presidential Leadership Council, concluded high-level discussions in New York. He was accompanied by Council Members Major General Aidarous Al-Zubaidi and Dr. Abdullah Al-Alimi during the annual meetings of the United Nations General Assembly.

The President of the Presidential Leadership Council delivered Yemen’s address to the 80th session of the General Assembly, in which he reviewed the latest developments in the country and the devastating consequences of the war ignited by the terrorist Houthi militias. He highlighted their grave assaults on shipping lanes and commercial vessels, as well as their serious human rights violations, including the abduction and enforced disappearance of dozens of staff from UN agencies, international organizations, and diplomatic missions.

The President and the accompanying Council Members briefed world leaders on the evolving situation in Yemen. They stressed the need for international interventions to address the humanitarian crisis created by the Houthi militias, supported by the Iranian regime.

The President also outlined the Council and Government’s vision regarding the essential requirements for achieving a comprehensive and sustainable peace. He urged a fundamentally different international approach than the past policy of “containment” in addressing the threat posed by the Houthi militia and allied terrorist organizations.

In this regard, His Excellency called on the international community to form an effective coalition to restore Yemen’s security and stability. He urged support to rebuild state institutions and liberate the country from the grip of militias and terrorist groups.

On the sidelines of the 80th General Assembly meetings, the President, accompanied by the two Council Members and the official delegation, held bilateral talks and high-level discussions with heads of state and government, senior diplomats, and regional and international actors. The program also included the inauguration of the Yemeni Book and Art Exhibition, along with photography displays. It further featured open meetings with American intellectuals, leaders, and representatives of the Yemeni community in the United States.

President Al-Alimi was seen off at New York Airport by Ambassador Abdullah Al-Saadi, Yemen’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations, and Mr. Emad Bamtaraf, Yemen’s Deputy Ambassador in Washington.
