President Al-Alimi Discusses with Kuwait Crown Prince Bilateral Relations and Yemen Developments

President Dr. Rashad Mohammed Al-Alimi, President of the Presidential Leadership Council, met today, Friday, in New York with His Highness Sheikh Sabah Khaled Al-Hamad Al-Sabah, Crown Prince of the State of Kuwait. The meeting took place on the sidelines of the United Nations General Assembly.

During the meeting, His Highness Sheikh Sabah Khaled Al-Hamad Al-Sabah conveyed to President Al-Alimi the greetings of his brother, His Highness the Emir of Kuwait Sheikh Mishal Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah, along with his wishes of good health and happiness for the President, and security, stability, and peace for the Yemeni people.

For his part, President Al-Alimi asked the Crown Prince to convey his greetings to His Highness the Emir, together with his wishes of health and wellbeing for him, and continued progress and prosperity for the Kuwaiti people.

The talks reviewed the distinguished bilateral relations between the two brotherly countries and peoples, and the promising prospects for their enhancement in various fields. They also addressed recent developments in Yemen and the region, the support needed for economic and service reforms. They also discussed efforts to contain the catastrophic consequences of Houthi terrorist attacks on oil facilities and shipping vessels.

President Al-Alimi highly valued Kuwait’s principled positions in support of the Yemeni people throughout different stages and circumstances. He commended its sincere efforts to help Yemeni people restore state institutions, security, stability, peace, and development. He also praised the facilities and care provided by the Kuwaiti authorities to the Yemeni community in Kuwait at all levels.

The President further commended the role of Kuwaiti funding institutions and charitable organizations in rehabilitating basic services and alleviating the humanitarian suffering caused by the Iran-backed Houthi militias.

He reaffirmed the commitment of the Presidential Leadership Council and the government to support the efforts of the UN Secretary-General’s Special Envoy and all good offices aimed at achieving a comprehensive and sustainable peace. Such peace, he stressed, must be based on the nationally, regionally, and internationally agreed references, foremost among them UN Security Council Resolution 2216.

For his part, Crown Prince Sheikh Sabah Khaled Al-Hamad Al-Sabah affirmed Kuwait’s continued support for the Yemeni people, their political leadership, and all efforts to restore security, stability, and peace in Yemen.

The meeting was attended by Dr. Shayea’ Al-Zindani, Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates, Ambassador Abdullah Al-Saadi, Yemen’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations and Major General Saleh Al-Maqaleh, Director of the Presidential Office. From the Kuwaiti side, attendees included Abdullah Ali Al-Yahya, Foreign Minister, Dr. Mishaal Jaber Al-Ahmad Al-Sabah, Director General of the Kuwait Direct Investment Promotion Authority, Mazen Issa Al-Issa, Undersecretary for Foreign Affairs at the Amiri Diwan, Badr Saleh Al-Tunib, Assistant Foreign Minister, and Ambassador Tareq Al-Banai, Kuwait’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations.
