
President Al-Alimi Stresses Importance of Resuming U.S. Humanitarian Assistance and Extending Legal Protections for Yemenis

His Excellency President Dr. Rashad Mohammed Al-Alimi, President of the Presidential Leadership Council, along with Council member Dr. Abdullah Al-Alimi, received today, Thursday, Ms. Mora Namdar, Assistant Secretary of State for Near Eastern Affairs. The meeting took place on the sidelines of the 80th session of the United Nations General Assembly.
The meeting discussed the distinguished bilateral relations between the two friendly countries and prospects for enhancing and developing them. The talks also addressed the latest developments in Yemen on various fronts, along with the international support required to advance comprehensive reforms.
During the meeting, the President renewed his appreciation for the United States’ steadfast support for the Presidential Leadership Council and the government. He stressed its importance to the Yemeni people in their aspirations to end the coup of the Iran-backed Houthi militias, restore state institutions, and achieve security, stability, and peace.
His Excellency highlighted the ongoing cooperation and partnership with the United States in combating terrorism and securing land and maritime borders. He also noted Washington’s active role in supporting the UN inspection mechanism and enforcing the arms embargo on Iranian weapons smuggled to the Houthi militias. He stressed the importance of cutting off the militias’ sources of funding and terrorist activities that destabilize Yemen and the region.
His Excellency praised President Donald Trump's policies and his firm stance toward Iran-backed militias in Yemen and the region. He expressed hope for the resumption of U.S. aid and the extension of legal protections for Yemeni citizens fleeing the brutality of the Houthi militia.
The meeting was attended by Dr. Shaya’ al-Zindani, Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates, Ambassador Abdullah al-Saadi, Yemen’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations, and Mr. Emad Bamatref, Yemen Deputy Ambassador to the United States.
