President Al-Alimi Receives German Foreign Minister

His Excellency Dr. Rashad Mohammed Al-Alimi, President of the Presidential Leadership Council, along with Council member Major General Aidaroos Al-Zubaidi, today, Thursday, received Dr. Johann David Fadevoll, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Federal Republic of Germany.

The meeting discussed the distinguished bilateral relations between the two friendly countries, along with the latest domestic developments.

Talks also addressed the German and European support required to advance government reform efforts, strengthen the national currency, and ease the suffering of the Yemeni people, which has been exacerbated by the Iran-backed Houthi militias.

President Al-Alimi praised the Federal Republic of Germany for its support of the Yemeni people and their political leadership.

He expressed his hope for greater German economic, developmental, and humanitarian assistance to help stabilize the national currency, improve living conditions and essential services, and advance comprehensive reform efforts.

The discussions also addressed the Houthis’ ongoing threats to international peace and security, carried out with direct support from Iran.

These threats include continued attacks on international shipping lanes, open collusion with terrorist organizations, and the growing risks posed by the sustained flow of Iranian weapons to the militia.

In this context, the President reiterated the urgent need for a collective global approach to support the government in addressing economic and humanitarian challenges. His Excellency stressed the need for a support to enhancing its capacity to combat terrorism and organized crime, and securing Yemen’s territorial waters.

For his part, the German Foreign Minister affirmed his country’s support for the Presidential Leadership Council and the government in fulfilling the aspirations of the Yemeni people and alleviating their humanitarian suffering.

Minister Fadevoll announced an increase in German aid to the Yemeni people and their government, and confirmed his country’s readiness to strengthen and expand cooperation programs at all levels.

The meeting was attended by Dr. Shaea’ Al-Zandani, Yemen’s Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates, and Ambassador Abdullah Al-Saadi, the Permanent Representative of Yemen to the United Nations.
