The meeting took place on the sidelines of the 80th session of the United Nations General Assembly.
The meeting discussed the UNDP’s development interventions across various sectors. It also reviewed the coordinated efforts with the international community to mobilize additional resources for programs that are more sustainable and effective. These programs aim to alleviate the suffering of the Yemeni people, caused by the terrorist Houthi militias with the support of the Iranian regime.
The President of the Council expressed his deep appreciation for the projects implemented by the UNDP in Yemen. He particularly commended the Food Security Response and Resilience Project and the Renewable Energy Project, which have made a tangible impact on the lives of citizens. He also voiced his aspiration to expand these initiatives to reach more affected areas and a larger number of beneficiaries.
His Excellency stressed the importance of broadening the scope of UNDP projects in the fields of food security, agricultural development, renewable energy, climate change mitigation, social protection, technology, innovation, digital transformation, and financial inclusion.
President Al-Alimi also highlighted the violations committed by the Houthi terrorist militias against humanitarian and relief workers, as well as international organizations. He underscored the need to establish a joint mechanism to enhance the security and safety of humanitarian and development operations. He also stressed the importance of ensuring aid delivery and protecting staff in areas under Houthi control.
