President Al-Alimi Receives U.S. Embassy Chargé d’Affaires

His Excellency President Dr. Rashad Mohammed Al-Alimi, President of the Presidential Leadership Council, received today, Wednesday, Mr. Jonathan Peccia, Chargé d’Affaires of the United States Embassy to Yemen.

The meeting addressed the distinguished bilateral relations between the two friendly countries and explored prospects for their enhancement and development. Discussions also covered recent local developments at all levels, the international support needed for comprehensive reform efforts, as well as the ongoing coordination and partnership across various fields.

During the meeting, His Excellency the President reiterated his appreciation for the United States’ support for the Presidential Leadership Council, the government, and the aspirations of the Yemeni people to end the coup by the Iran-backed terrorist Houthi militias. He also commanded US support to restore state institutions, and achieve security, stability, and peace.

In this context, His Excellency the President highlighted aspects of the ongoing cooperation and partnership with the United States in counterterrorism. He further commended the active U.S. role in supporting the United Nations inspection mechanism, implementing the ban on Iranian weapons smuggled to the Houthi militias, drying up the sources of funding for their terrorist activities, and deterring their threats to the security and stability of Yemen and the region.

For his part, the U.S. Embassy Chargé d’Affaires reaffirmed the United States’ strong commitment to supporting the Presidential Leadership Council and its unity, and to continuing its valued efforts alongside the international community to achieve peace in Yemen and end the humanitarian suffering caused by the terrorist Houthi militia.

The meeting was attended by Dr. Shaya’a Al-Zindani, Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates and, Major General Saleh Al-Maqaleh, Director of the Office of the President of the Presidential Leadership Council.
