President Al-Alimi Calls for Collective Arab and Islamic Measures to Curb Expansionist Policies in the Region
Doha
His Excellency Dr. Rashad Mohammed Al-Alimi, President of the Presidential Leadership Council, called for the adoption of a comprehensive Arab and Islamic approach to joint action and collective measures to curb Israeli expansionist policies and regional hegemonic ambitions.
In his address to the Emergency Arab-Islamic summit convened in Doha, the President warned that the continuation of genocide in Gaza without accountability, and the ongoing assaults against countries of the region without deterrence, have ultimately emboldened the Israeli occupation to launch attacks against the State of Qatar.
The President also referred to the Israeli regime’s attacks on the resources of the Yemeni people and its targeting of civilian assets in retaliation for reckless cross-border strikes by the terrorist Houthi militias, which have militarized the Red Sea and turned Yemen into a proxy battlefield on behalf of their backers.
President Al-Alimi affirmed that today’s geopolitical challenges prove that expansionist regional powers and armed terrorist groups are two sides of the same coin, both providing pretexts for the other’s expansion and both seeking to undermine the nation-state and fuel regional conflict.
He stressed that the region now requires a broader Arab and Islamic joint approach based on three integrated pillars. At the forefront is a just and comprehensive solution to the Palestinian cause in accordance with international legitimacy and the Arab Peace Initiative. He further emphasized the importance of supporting national institutions of Arab and Islamic states politically, economically, and in terms of security, alongside collective action to combat armed terrorist groups. He also highlighted the need to deter rogue states with expansionist agendas in the region, foremost among them Israel, while strengthening Arab and Islamic integration.
The President underscored that safeguarding national sovereignty of stable states and accelerating the path toward an independent Palestinian state necessarily requires collective action to assist fragile states.
He renewed appreciation for the Arab Coalition to Support Legitimacy in Yemen, led by the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates, describing it as a model of Arab solidarity in deterring foreign threats.
President Al-Alimi also commended the successes of Arab diplomacy under the leadership of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia in achieving a major political shift toward international recognition of Palestine. In this regard, he reiterated Yemen’s welcome of the historic resolution of the United Nations General Assembly in support of the two-state solution.
Furthermore, he reaffirmed Yemen’s full support for the Qatari, Egyptian, and U.S. mediation efforts as well as the Arab initiative to rebuild Gaza.
On the domestic front, the President praised the statement of the Gulf Cooperation Council reaffirming support for Yemen’s economic, institutional, and security reforms, unity, and stability. He also welcomed the decision of the Arab Economic and Social Council to explore the establishment of a fund for Yemen’s reconstruction.
