His Excellency Dr. Rashad Mohammed Al-Alimi, President of the Presidential Leadership Council, received today (Thursday), Mr. Steven Fagin, U.S. Ambassador to Yemen.

The meeting addressed the latest domestic and regional developments, as well as the humanitarian and economic support required to advance government reforms, strengthen the national currency, and enhance coordination in supporting law enforcement authorities and counterterrorism efforts.

President Al-Alimi highlighted the tangible progress in bilateral relations between the two countries, expressing, on behalf of the Council members and the Government, deep appreciation for the United States’ firm positions toward the militias and their regional sponsors. His Excellency particularly commended Washington’s active role in enforcing the arms embargo on Iranian weapons smuggled to the Houthi terrorist militias, drying up their funding sources, and deterring threats undermining the security and stability of Yemen and the wider region.

The President further reiterated the importance of sustained U.S. engagement in safeguarding freedom of international navigation and degrading terrorist militias’ capabilities. In this regard, he stressed the urgent need for a strengthened regional and international partnership with Yemeni state institutions to confront shared challenges at all levels.

Discussions also covered the Houthis’ wide-scale campaign of arrests targeting UN and international organization staff, as well as their grave human rights violations, including the persecution of Yemeni activists preparing for popular celebrations of the country’s national revolutionary anniversaries.

For his part, Ambassador Fagin reaffirmed his country’s commitment to supporting the Presidential Leadership Council, the Government, and the Yemeni people in all their aspirations. He also praised the recent economic and financial reforms that have contributed to stabilizing the national currency and denying the militias access to the local and global banking system.

The meeting was attended by Dr. Yahya Al-Shuaibi, Director of the Presidency Office, and Mr. Jonathan Picha, U.S. Embassy Chargé d’Affaires.
