His Excellency Dr. Rashad Mohammed Al-Alimi, President of the Presidential Leadership Council, received today (Thursday) Mr. Jonathan Pecha, Chargé d’Affaires of the United States Embassy to Yemen.

The meeting discussed the distinguished bilateral relations between the two friendly countries and prospects for strengthening and developing them. It also touched on the latest domestic developments, as well as the international support required for government reform efforts and for strengthening the stability of the national currency.

The talks further addressed the ongoing coordination to support law enforcement authorities and efforts to combat terrorism, smuggling, money laundering, and organized crime.

His Excellency renewed his appreciation for the United States’ supportive stance toward constitutional legitimacy in various forums, expressing his aspiration for the resumption of American humanitarian interventions and for ensuring their delivery to rightful beneficiaries, away from the control and corruption of the terrorist Houthi militia.

In the same context, the President reiterated his gratitude to the brothers in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates for their humanitarian and developmental contributions, which have had a tangible impact in alleviating the suffering of the Yemeni people and supporting the path of economic recovery.

The President also expressed his appreciation for the significant American role in confronting the threat of the Houthi militias, including supporting the United Nations inspection mechanism and reinforcing maximum pressure under the terrorist designation resolution. He warned of the grave risks posed by the continued flow of advanced Iranian weapons to the militias, including those internationally prohibited.

The President of the Presidential Leadership Council stressed the importance of maintaining maximum pressure to deter the Houthis’ terrorist behavior and of adopting clearer positions toward any understandings with Iran that overlook the threat of its subversive proxies and the terrorist organizations allied with them in Yemen and the region.

The meeting was attended by Dr. Yahya Al-Shuaibi, Director of the Office of the Presidency of the Republic.
