President Al-Alimi briefed on government response to flash floods in several governorates

His Excellency President Dr. Rashad Mohammed Al-Alimi, President of the Presidential Leadership Council, held a phone call today, Saturday, with Prime Minister Salem Saleh bin Buraik to review the government’s measures aimed at mitigating the effects of the atmospheric depression and unstable weather conditions that resulted in heavy rainfall and flash floods. The floods caused severe material damage, particularly in the interim capital Aden, as well as the governorates of Hadhramout, Lahj, and Shabwa.

The President of the Presidential Leadership Council listened to an initial report from the Prime Minister on the damages left behind by the rains and floods to public and private properties, agricultural lands, roads, infrastructure, and essential services. He was also briefed on the coordinated efforts with relevant authorities and regional and international organizations to provide relief, carry out rescue operations, and assist affected families and communities.

The President praised the efforts of the government, local authority leaders, and executive offices in the interim capital and the affected governorates, as well as the precautionary measures that have been taken to reduce the impact of the depression. He stressed the importance of pursuing more sustainable policies to strengthen early warning centers and adapt to climate changes, particularly in the eastern governorates of the country.

The President also received a briefing from the Prime Minister on the progress of comprehensive reforms, financial and monetary policies coordinated with the Central Bank, which have contributed to the noticeable improvement in the position of the national currency and the prices of basic commodities. This, he noted, was the result of a responsible spirit of harmony between state institutions and the actual implementation of the economic recovery plan.
