President Al-Alimi Receives Credentials of Ambassador of Somalia

Today, Wednesday, His Excellency President Dr. Rashad Mohammed Al-Alimi, President of the Presidential Leadership Council, received the credentials of Ambassador Abdulhakim Mohammed Ahmed of the Federal Republic of Somalia to the Republic of Yemen during a ceremony at Ma’ashiq Palace in the interim capital, Aden.

Following the credentials ceremony, the President met with the Somali Ambassador, who conveyed greetings from His Excellency President Dr. Hassan Sheikh Mohamud, along with best wishes for good health and happiness for President Al-Alimi and the members of the Council, as well as peace, security, and stability for the Yemeni people.

In turn, President Al-Alimi welcomed the newly appointed Ambassador and entrusted him to convey his greetings, as well as those of his fellow Council members, to the Somali leadership. He further affirmed his commitment to providing all necessary facilities and support to enable the Ambassador to fulfill his diplomatic duties and enhance bilateral relations to the fullest extent.

His Excellency praised the historic fraternal ties between the two countries and peoples, who have always sought refuge in one another in times of “prosperity and hardship alike.”

President Al-Alimi affirmed Yemen's support for the Somali government's efforts in combating terrorism and organized crime, as well as for joint coordination to deter transnational threats, safeguard waterways, and ensure the security and stability of the region.

His Excellency commended the steadfast positions of the Federal Republic of Somalia in various international forums in support of the Yemeni people and their aspirations to restore state institutions and end the coup by the Iran-backed terrorist Houthi militia. He also praised Somalia's commitment to strengthening and developing bilateral relations across various fields.

His Excellency addressed the shared security threats stemming from the existing collusion, arms shipments, and exchange of expertise between the Houthi militia and terrorist organizations in the Horn of Africa, including ISIS and Al-Shabaab in Somalia, and their implications for international peace and security.

The President of the Presidential Leadership Council reaffirmed that restoring security in the Red Sea region must begin with its southern coasts. This requires comprehensive arrangements on both sides of the Bab al-Mandab Strait, in addition to enhancing joint security and intelligence coordination.

The credentials ceremony and the meeting were attended  by Dr. Shayea Al-Zandani, Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates, Major General Saleh Al-Maqaleh, the Director of the Office of the President of the Presidential Leadership Council, and Mr. Mohammed Haj Mahfouz, the chief of Presidential Protocol and Ceremonies.
