President of Leadership Council Meets with Speaker of Russian State Duma

Today, Wednesday, His Excellency President Dr. Rashad Mohammed Al-Alimi, President of the Presidential Leadership Council, met in the Russian capital, Moscow, with Mr. Vyacheslav Volodin, Chairman of the State Duma.

Discussions focused on the distinguished bilateral relations between the two friendly countries, the latest developments in the Yemeni situation, and regional and international issues of mutual interest.

During the meeting, President Al-Alimi praised the century-old Yemeni-Russian relations, reaffirming both countries’ commitment to advancing these ties toward broader horizons of cooperation across various fields, particularly in the legislative domain.

In this context, His Excellency the President commended the Russian Federation's consistent stance in support of the Yemeni people and their political leadership across international forums. He expressed his hope for Moscow’s continued active role in supporting the Yemeni state and its legitimate institutions.

The President discussed the latest developments in Yemen, including the stalled peace process due to the intransigence of the terrorist Houthi militias. He reiterated the legitimate government's openness to all initiatives aimed at ending the war in accordance with agreed-upon references, particularly UN Security Council Resolution 2216.

For his part, Speaker Vyacheslav Volodin welcomed President Al-Alimi and the accompanying delegation, affirming Russia’s continued support for Yemen, its people, and their aspirations to restore security, stability, and peace.

Mr. Volodin highlighted key milestones in bilateral relations between the two countries, expressing confidence that the President’s visit to Russia would serve as an important boost to strengthening these relations at all levels.

He emphasized the importance of close coordination between the State Duma and Yemen’s House of Representatives, as well as the exchange of expertise and visits in a way that serves the mutual interests of both nations and peoples.

The meeting was attended by Dr. Shayea Al-Zandani, Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates, Lt. Gen. Mahmoud Al-Subaihi, Presidential Advisor for Defense and Security, Engineer Omar Al-Amoudi, Advisor for Development and Reconstruction, Mr. Marwan Damaj, Advisor for Cultural Affairs, and Ambassador Ahmed Salem Al-Wahishi, Yemen's Ambassador to the Russian Federation.
