President Al-Alimi: Yemen Will Remain a Deep-Rooted and Loyal Supporter of the Nation’s Causes
Baghdad
His Excellency Dr. Rashad Mohammed Al-Alimi, President of the Presidential Leadership Council, reaffirmed the Republic of Yemen’s unwavering commitment to Arab principles, foremost among them the Palestinian cause and the right of the Palestinian people to freedom, independence, an end to Israeli occupation, and the establishment of a fully sovereign Palestinian state in accordance with international resolutions and the Arab Peace Initiative.
In a speech delivered before the Arab Summit in Baghdad, President Al-Alimi stressed that Yemen has always been, and will continue to be, a deeply rooted and loyal supporter of the Arab nation’s causes and a key partner in safeguarding Arab national security and defending its supreme interests.
He emphasized that the exceptional circumstances and challenges threatening the Arab region demand a sincere and courageous stance—starting with the implementation of summit resolutions and moving toward a more serious framework of solidarity to deter shared terrorist threats.
At the forefront of these threats, His Excellency said, are foreign interferences in Arab affairs and attempts to fragment national states and legitimate institutions through rogue terrorist groups that prioritize the narrow interests of their backers over those of the Arab nation and its national security.
In this context, the President spoke of Yemen’s ongoing existential battle against the Houthi militia project, which has been ongoing for more than a decade and is backed by the Iranian regime. He affirmed that “the Yemeni people are now more determined than ever to end their suffering and overthrow this cross-border agenda.”
The President noted that all efforts have been exhausted in trying to push the Houthi militia to abandon its racist approach and respond to the popular will and international resolutions.
He added that the group’s persistence has reinforced the conviction that it is not a peace project nor a temporary threat, but a permanent threat to international peace and security.
The President expressed deep gratitude and appreciation to the brothers in the Coalition to Support Legitimacy, led by the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates, for their vital role in supporting Yemen’s resilience, alleviating humanitarian suffering, and helping national institutions stay intact over the past years.
He voiced hope that the summit would yield decisive resolutions to strengthen this resilience and deter the Houthis’ arrogance, including strict enforcement of the Arab League Council’s resolution—at the permanent representatives level—designating the Houthi militia as a foreign terrorist organization.
He said: “A collective stance supporting this designation will leave no doubt about our commitment to the charters of the Arab League and the United Nations. It will also send a clear message to all militias that challenge the exclusive right of our national states to control arms and decisions of war and peace.”
The President stressed that this is the best path to restoring peace and stability across the region.
He also expressed his hope that this summit, along with the concurrent Arab Economic Summit, would lead to joint initiatives to aid war-torn nations, support economic recovery, and rebuild devastated institutions—viewing this as the most effective way to combat terrorism and create sustainable peace that all Arab peoples destroyed.
Lastly, he extended congratulations to the Syrian Arab Republic—its leadership, government, and people—on the lifting of sanctions. He extended his thanks to His Royal Highness Prince Mohammed bin Salman, Crown Prince and Prime Minister of Saudi Arabia, for achieving this historic milestone.
