
President Al-Alimi Praises U.S. Efforts in Enforcing Iranian Arms Embargo

His Excellency Dr. Rashad Mohammed Al-Alimi, President of the Presidential Leadership Council, received today, Tuesday, Mr. Jonathan Peccia, the Chargé d’Affaires of the U.S. Embassy to Yemen, to discuss the distinguished bilateral relations between the two friendly countries and prospects for enhancing and developing them across various fields.
During the meeting, they also addressed recent domestic developments and issues of mutual interest, foremost among them the ongoing efforts to safeguard maritime routes and deter attacks by the Iranian-backed Houthi terrorist militia on international shipping lanes and cargo vessels.
His Excellency reiterated his appreciation for the United States’ support for constitutional legitimacy and the US valued humanitarian interventions aimed at alleviating the suffering caused by the Houthi terrorist militia.
The President expressed his hope for increased international economic and developmental support to strengthen the national currency, improve living conditions and essential services, complete comprehensive reform efforts, and boost the capabilities of law enforcement authorities.
In this context, His Excellency highlighted the areas of existing cooperation and partnership in counterterrorism, anti-smuggling efforts, and coast guard operations, as well as the active U.S. role in enforcing the arms embargo on smuggled Iranian weapons to the Houthi militia, drying up their funding sources, curbing their terrorist activities, and deterring threats to Yemen’s and the region’s security and stability.
The meeting was attended by Dr. Yahya Al-Shuaibi, the Director of the Presidency Office.
