President Al-Alimi Receives Ambassadors of European Union
Riyadh
His Excellency President Dr. Rashad Mohammed Al-Alimi, President of the Presidential Leadership Council, along with Council Member Faraj Al-Buhsani, received today (Monday) Mr. Gabriel Munuera Viñales, the Head of the European Union Delegation to Yemen, Ms. Catherine Corm-Kammoun, the Ambassador of the French Republic, and Mr. Hubert J. Jäger, the Ambassador of the Federal Republic of Germany.
During the meeting, they discussed the distinguished bilateral relations between Yemen and the European Union countries, as well as updates on the local situation and the European interventions needed to alleviate the suffering of the Yemeni people, caused by the Iranian backed terrorist Houthi militias.
The talks also covered regional developments and a number of issues of common interest, foremost among them international efforts to secure maritime passages and deter the terrorist Houthi militias’ attacks on international shipping lanes and cargo vessels.
His Excellency the President praised the European Union countries’ supportive positions toward the Presidential Leadership Council and the government, as well as their continuous humanitarian and development aid across various fields. He emphasized the importance of doubling these efforts to improve living conditions and sustain essential services.
The President briefed the European ambassadors on the latest developments in Yemen, including the terrorist Houthi militias’ human rights violations, their destructive actions against the national economy, the devastation of livelihoods, and the threat they pose to maritime routes through the Red Sea and the Gulf of Aden, as part of Iran’s exposed agenda to destabilize regional and global security.
His Excellency reiterated that the success of any political approach aimed at achieving comprehensive and sustainable stability hinges on ending Iran’s destabilizing influence on international peace and security, as well as collective action to deter the threat of the Houthi militias and the need to designate them as a foreign terrorist organization.
For their part, the European ambassadors affirmed their countries’ continued support for the Presidential Leadership Council, the government, and the Yemeni people at all levels.
They also discussed the European Union’s plans to update its policies regarding Yemen, including considering tougher sanctions against the terrorist Houthi militias.
The meeting was attended by Dr. Yahya Al-Shuaibi, the Director of the Presidency Office, and Dr. Shai’a Al-Zandani, the Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriate.
