Today, Sunday, His Excellency Dr. Rashad Mohammed Al-Alimi, President of the Presidential Leadership Council, received Mr. Steven Fagin, the Ambassador of the United States of America. Discussions focused on bilateral relations between the two friendly countries, particularly in the areas of counterterrorism, organized crime, and enhancing the close partnership across various levels.

During the meeting, they touched upon recent developments in Yemen and exchanged views on issues of mutual interest, including ongoing efforts to safeguard maritime passages and deter attacks by the Iran-backed Houthi terrorist militia on international shipping lanes and commercial vessels.

President Al-Alimi praised the significant progress in bilateral relations with the United States and its active role in enforcing the ban on smuggled Iranian weapons to the Houthi militia, disrupting the group’s sources of funding and terrorist activities, and countering its destabilizing threats to the security and stability of Yemen and the region.

His Excellency the president emphasized the need for support by the international community to stabilize the national currency and improve essential services. Additionally, His Excellency highlighted ongoing coordination to strengthen law enforcement authorities in combating terrorism, money laundering, and organized crime.

In this context, His Excellency reaffirmed the urgent need for a comprehensive regional and international strategic partnership with the Yemeni government to secure maritime routes and address common challenges at all levels.

The meeting was attended by Dr. Yahya Al-Shuaibi, Director of the Presidency Office.
