President Al-Alimi Receives Report on Implementation of Directives for Prisoner Release and Debt Relief

His Excellency President Dr. Rashad Mohammed Al-Alimi, President of the Presidential Leadership Council, received today, Monday, a report on the implementation of presidential directives regarding the release of prisoners who have served three-quarters or half of their sentences, as well as detainees held due to private rights claims who are unable to settle their financial obligations due to insolvency, following the settlement of their debts. This initiative coincides with the advent of the holy month of Ramadan.

This occurred during His Excellency the President’s meeting today, Monday, with Judge Qaher Mustafa, the Attorney General of the Republic, in the presence of Judge Badr Al-Aredha, the Minister of Justice.

According to the report, the list of those released included 482 prisoners, among them 152 prisoners who had served three-quarters of their sentences, 137 prisoners who had completed their full sentences, and 23 prisoners involved in cases of private rights after settling their outstanding financial obligations.

Additionally, the list included the release of 160 prisoners on bail, as well as 10 prisoners who were released due to the absence of sufficient grounds for prosecution.

The Attorney General noted that 324 prisoners are still detained on account of private rights they have been unable to settle due to insolvency. He emphasized that efforts are ongoing to coordinate with relevant authorities, business leaders, philanthropists, and chambers of commerce to provide assistance to these insolvent prisoners.

The President of the Presidential Leadership Council was briefed comprehensively by the Minister of Justice and the Attorney General on the progress of work in the courts, judicial bodies, public prosecution, and their supporting agencies over the past period. This included updates on the resolution of cases pending before various judicial departments, continuous reforms and modernization initiatives within the judicial system, the rehabilitation of infrastructure, and the necessary support to enhance their performance and ensure their effective presence across all governorate.

His Excellency the President commended the role of the judiciary and the achievements it has accomplished over the past period. He also acknowledged its significant efforts in reinforcing the state’s authority, enforcing the rule of law, ensuring justice for the oppressed, and safeguarding public funds.

His Excellency the President reaffirmed the commitment of the Presidential Leadership Council and the government to supporting the judiciary, facilitating its noble duties, and respecting its independence in exercising its constitutional and legal mandates.
