President of Leadership Council Receives U.S. Ambassador

His Excellency Dr. Rashad Mohammed Al-Alimi, President of the Presidential Leadership Council, along with Council member Othman Mujalli, received Mr. Steven Fagin, the U.S. Ambassador to Yemen, today, Sunday to discuss bilateral relations between the two friendly countries, their future prospects, and ways to strengthen them at various levels.

The meeting touched on the latest developments in Yemen and exchanged views on issues of mutual concern, particularly the threat posed by the Iranian-backed Houthi militia and its grave human rights violations.

President Al-Alimi praised the distinguished bilateral relations with the United States, its humanitarian and development interventions, and its well-recognized role in intercepting Iranian weapons shipments smuggled to the militias. He expressed his aspiration for a broader bilateral partnership to address challenges and deter threats that undermine the security and stability of Yemen and the region.

In this context, His Excellency commended the U.S. administration’s decision to re-designate the Houthi militia as a Foreign Terrorist Organization, reaffirming the government’s commitment to close cooperation with the international community to implement the decision while mitigating its potential humanitarian impact on vulnerable social groups.

His Excellency also emphasized the urgent need for a collective global approach to support the government in addressing economic, service, and humanitarian challenges, strengthening its capabilities in combating terrorism and organized crime, and securing its territorial waters as a reliable partner in protecting international peace and securit.

The meeting was attended by Dr. Yahya Al-Shuaibi, the Director of the Presidency Office.
