His Excellency, President Dr. Rashad Mohammed Al-Alimi, President of the Presidential Leadership Council, along with Council Member Dr. Abdullah Al-Alimi, received today Sunday, Mr. Josep Borrell, the Supreme Representative of the European Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, Vice-President of the European Commission.

The meeting touched upon local developments and the European interventions required to alleviate the human suffering caused by the terrorist Houthi militias supported by the Iranian regime, in addition to developments in the region and a number of issues of common concern.

The President of the Presidential Leadership Council praised the bilateral and collective relations with the European Union countries, their firm position alongside the Yemeni people, its constitutional legitimacy, and its right to restore state institutions, security, peace and development.

The President of the Presidential Leadership Council, and the member of the Council, briefed the European Commissioner on the latest developments in the Yemeni situation. He was briefed on the Houthi militias’ gross violations of human rights, their terrorist attacks at the national and regional levels, and repercussions on the living and economic conditions of the Yemeni people, the peoples of the region, and international peace and security.

The President of the Presidential Leadership Council affirmed the Council and the government’s keenness on a comprehensive and just peace based on the terms of reference agreed upon nationally, regionally, and internationally, in particular Resolution 2216. He also affirmed in this context full support for the efforts of the brothers in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and the United Nations Special Envoy to launch a comprehensive political process that meets the aspirations of all Yemenis to restore state institutions that guarantee equal citizenship and public freedoms.

The President of the Presidential Leadership Council pointed out the difficulty of reaching sustainable peace in the absence of a serious partner that gives precedence to the interests of the Yemeni people over the interests of the Iranian regime. He added: sustainable peace is difficult under the international community’s slowness in taking firm measures to dry up funding sources, arm the militias, and dismantle their racist vision based on the divine right to rule humans, aggressive mobilization against communities, religions, rights and human dignity.

At the regional level, His Excellency the President affirmed the position of the Republic of Yemen alongside the Palestinian people and their right to establish their independent, sovereign state. He added: Yemen rejected any Israeli military escalation on the city of Rafah, warning of its catastrophic humanitarian consequences for the residents of the city, to which about 1.4 million Palestinians have fled from the brutality of the brutal Israeli occupation.

For his part, Mr. Josep Borrell, the Supreme Representative of the European Union, stressed that this meeting represents a strong message of support for the Presidential Leadership Council and the government. He expressed his deep appreciation for the Council’s engagement with peace efforts and initiatives, which reflect a high responsibility towards the Yemeni people, and keenness to alleviate their long-standing suffering.

Mr. Borrell also stressed the European Union's keenness on the security, stability and territorial integrity of Yemen. He affirmed that EU supports all efforts aimed at achieving peace in the country, including strengthening the government's role in sovereignty over its territorial waters.

The meeting was attended by Dr.Yahya Al-Shuaibi, the Director of the Office of the Presidency of the Republic, Dr. Shaye’ Al-Zindani, the Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriate, and Major General Saleh Al-Maqaleh, the Director of the Office of the President of the Presidential Leadership Council.

The meeting was also attended by Gabriel Munera Viñales, the European Union Ambassador to Yemen, and a number of European officials.
